Ref. No: AIESL/SMS/HQ/19/19-002 Date: 14.02.2019 Safety Information Circular ‘Subject: Adhering to AIESL MOE procedure for usage of tools. History: On flight Al 967 TRV - SHJ dated 25" Dec 2018 during the flight, cabin crew observed a 7 inch broken hack saw blade turned into knife, left near the slide chute of right forward service door, which was further handed over to the Duty Manager by the commander as per SOP. Similar Incident were also reported earlier on the Boeing 737 fleet, where the similar type Hacksaw turned blade was found on the seat by the security personnel or cabin crew. Hazard Identified: Sharp instrument, cutters, blades or knife if left unnoticed on the aircraft, may be a great hazard or threat, if it may fall in the hands of perpetrators, which may cause unlawful interference with Al or its subsidiaries or customer airlines operators. Action Required: In view of the above, all maintenance staff are required to ensure that the signed out aircraft in line maintenance or from the hangar, must be free of any foreign objects like tools / knife etc, AMEs/ Mechanics allocated in Aircraft or Cabin Section should crosscheck the same and ensure that no such incidents mentioned above, should recur. Aliso all are required to follow the procedure for hand tools stated in AIESL MOE part 2 section 2.4 para 2.4.11 and ensure that no additional items or tools other than approved tool kit list are kept in the tool kit. A self-audit by individual is required after the task is carried out to ensure that no tool is missing. In case of any missing tools, it is the responsibility of the individual Service Engineer or technician to inform the respective supervisor of activity center, who will investigate and action to recover the tool and report, to respective LMM/BMM/SMM.
