READING COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS

It is important students read the information independently, and then discuss it after reading. Here are some
questions to help facilitate discussions and understanding.

Part 1:
1. Could this information be true? Why or why not?
YES, Because they give us full names of people, they give us facts with chronological dates as well as they
indicate the different events in different places for exaple: continents and countries.
2. Do you like this story/ information? Why or why not?
Yes, because it is interesting to see the positive evolution of a great organization,
Knowing about a new profitable business idea is always good.
3. Would you like to be a character from the story? Why or why not?
Yes, Danica Patrick because she became the first woman to win an IndyCar race. In 2009, she finished third in
one of the most famous and difficult races in the world: the Indianapolis 500 ( five hundred)
She is very competitive, and takes many risks.

Part 2: KNOWLEDGE
• Tell what the information /story is about.
This is the history of the international car racing called Formula One, Each race is called the Grand
Prize, it is held on road circuits, Alonso was the first man to win the first night race in Formula One
history, on 28 September 2008
In the beginning the Grand Prix was always held at night in Singapore, this was a business strategy
because so that more people could see the race like all of Europe and South America.
In 1950, there were formula One Grand Prix races in Europe ,in the United States.
From the 1960s to the 1980s, there were more races in Brazil, Canada, and Japan. Formula One
racing is not good for environment. But racing teams are always working to make Formula One
Cars work better, Today's family cars are safer and have better aerodynamics and engines
because of techologies from Formula One racing. Because of this they use less fuel, and that is
good for the environment.
No woman has ever won a Formula One championship race. Some people think that it is more difficult
for women because of the forces on the driver's necks when they brake or go around corners. Danica
Patrick, Milka Duno, and Sarah Fisher race American Indy Cars. Indy Cars look like Formula One cars,
and they often reach the same speeds too. In Japan in 2008, Danica Patrick became the first woman
ever to win and IndyCar race.

- Today's Formula One cars destroy lots of tyres and engine parts, and they use about 160 litres of fuel
in every race (there is a lot of investment of money)

- Many people hope that one day a woman will be world champion. (Actually, there is more
equality between men and women)

Part 4: APPLICATION
1. Give an example of someone you know who is like one of the characters in the story /
information.
Sofía Mulanovich because she was the world champion of surfing at ISA 2019 in Japan just like
Danica Patrick who became the first woman ever to win an IndyCar race.
Both women won an important competition and were recognized for that.
Part 5: SYNTHESIS
• What changes would you make to the story/ information?
I would add more information about the story, for example who was the creator of this race,
