SHORT COURSE IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

A Guide for Students to write Training Report

1. Structure of the report

 Title page
 Synopsis / Summery
 Table of Contents
 List of figures
 List of tables
 List of abbreviation (if any)
 Chapter 1 (Introduction)
 Chapter 2 (Literature Review)
 Chapter 3 (Data obtained from a company)
 Discussion
 Conclusion and Recommendation
 References
 Acknowledgement (optional)
 Appendices

2. Title page (see the specimen give)

The title page should bear

- Full title
- Full name of the student
- Name of the Short Course program for which report is submitted
- Year
3. Summary

The title page should be followed by a concise, short summary, explaining mainly about your
training and outcome of work.

4. Text page Format

The text should word processed on A4 papers (one side) and computer printed.

Following instruction should be strictly followed in the formatting of text pages.

-Line spacing:-1.5

-Margins

- Left :-3.75 cm
- Top: - 2.5 cm
- Right: - 2.5 cm
- Bottom:-2.5 cm

 Front :- Times New Roman


 Font size :- 12 point for text, principal headings 14 bold, sub heading 12 bold

5. Text structure

The structure of the text would be as follows.

-Chapter 1 - Introduction- includes brief description of the organization/ institutions,

- Chapter 2 – Literature Review – Information obtained from other resources on Human


Resource Management

- Chapter 3 - Description of the HR activities and observed during your training period.

To elaborate your project area you may use relevant literature.

Methods followed during data collection should be arranged systematically irrespective of the
time undertaken.

Avoid extracting bulk of literature from text books which are not directly relevant to
your training!

6 Number of pages

The body of the report should not exceed 30 pages (except appendices, table of content etc.).
7. Tables, Photographs

Tables, photographs and other illustrations could be included in the report where applicable
and duly numbered.

8. Page numbering

All pages in the text (Introduction– summary) should be numbered using Arabic numbering
and other sections before the introduction can be using roman numbering (bottom, centre)

9. Appendices

Other different material which is related to explain the text could be grouped separately at the
end of text. Each material (tables, explanations, prints of presentations done, photographs,
maps, field visit reports etc.) should bear appropriate heading and number ex. Appendix1, 2..

10 Abbreviations

Should be minimized and used abbreviations should be listed separately.

11. References

List of reference materials used in writing the report should be included. You may use the
Harvard method.

12. Binding

Spiral binding should be done for the final error free printed version of the report.
