My Pet Plant

I have a pet plant. My pet plant is called Okra or in english Lady’s Finger or Gumbo. It
can be found anywhere here in the Philippines because of the climate suitable for its growth.
Okra is a vegetable which can be planted anywhere, either at the backyard or can be grown
indoors. My pet plant okra is grown on pot. I watered my plant every day and let it bathe under
the sun to supply its daily needs. I also remove any weeds that could hinder my pet plant’s
growth. This is pet plant can also bear, not only vegetable, but also flowers. It may be color
yellow or it may white. My pet plant has not yet grown its flowers since it is still too young, but I
am hoping it would produce a yellow colored flower since it is uncommon to bear yellow
flowers. The Okra may have thorns depending on which variety you are planting. I suggest you
handle your pet plant with gloves if they have their own thorns.

Okra is a recommended vegetable for your nutrition. It is rich in vitamins A and C and
low in calories. Some people do not like this vegetable because of its slimy texture but they do
not know that this texture helps in regulating your digestive system. Okra is also a good source
of fiber because of its high content and rich in anti-oxidants. There are various recipes that you
can make out of okra that you can include in your diet. Some have it roasted, deep-fried and
mixed with other vegetables. Best recipe I like best for my okra is the steamed okra paired with
tomatoes and vinegar. No matter how you want your okra to be presented, okra can be a
stand-alone viand which can be eaten during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The importance of
Okra is beneficial for your nutrition and health needs.

Some people want to grow Okra for the purpose of selling it at the market while others
choose to grow this plant for their own consumption. I choose the latter because not only does
it have benefits for my nutrition and health, at the same time it is also rewarding to grow and
cultivate a vegetable out of the pot. Among all of the vegetables I know of, Okra for me is a
good vegetable for beginners who want to venture on planting crops. It may take months for
my pet plant okra to be a fully grown plant and produce its crop but just like humans, it takes
time for us to mature in order to reach our full potential. Therefore, patience is crucial when
you decide to have and grow a pet plant.
