The transmissioniline generates capacitive reactive volt-amperes in its

shunt capacitance andi absorbing reactivei volt-amperes in its series

inductance. The load atiwhich the inductive and capacitive reactive volt-
amperes are equal andiopposite, such load is called surge impedance load.

It is also called naturali load of the transmissioni line because power is not
dissipated in transmission. Ini surge impedance loading, the voltage and
current are in thei same phase at all the point of the line. When the surge
impedancei of the line hasi terminated the power delivered by it is called
surge impedance loading.

Shunt capacitancei charges the itransmission line when thei circuit breaker
at the sending end of the line isi close.
