MDESIGN Change the View

Default “list view” in MDESIGN calculation libraries

Click the options button in the upper left corner

Tick the box “Show structure in a tree form”

Now you see the MDESIGN libraries in tree form:

Expand the calculation libraries and modules for a better overview

MDESIGN Tables and Databases


Below, in the left corner you find the Tables and Databases section with further small calculation tools
(material properties, tables, fits and tolerances, databases for main calculations, precise design
calculations…):

Under the tables and databases section you also find the formulary and mathematical solutions of
diverse topics:

MDESIGN Open the User Guide
Click on Help and on User Guide, alternatively press F1 from anywhere in MDESIGN and the user guide
will open

MDESIGN Calculation Examples

Go back to section Calculation libraries and open for example MDESIGN bolt with double-click (screen
may differ if you are in “tree view”):

Then double-click on Bolted Joint, VDI 2230

Press the 2020 main button

Click on Open and then on Calculation Data Files (*.mdp;*.xml)

Choose an existing example, press Open and then the F10 key for calculation.
The calculation will start and MDESIGN will present the result.

For more calculation examples follow these steps in mechanical, shaft and the other libraries as well as
in the formulary and in the tables and databases section.

MDESIGN Open the Calculation Documentation

Each library/module contains a calculation documentation which provides information about the
formulas, standards and calculation bases used in MDESIGN.
Click on Help and then on Calculation documentation

MDESIGN Transfer calculation results to a documentation

After you have performed a calculation, click on Print and then select Print Preview

Print Preview

The document covers your complete calculation with all used formulas, parameters and variables.
It contains the input data and also the calculation results as well as some help graphics.

You can change the documentation layout with Layout Setup

So it looks like this

Click on the Output button and

customize your documentation:

 you can add or delete help graphics and project data or change the size of the graphics
 you can also insert page breaks to get a better document structure

Close the Print Preview and click on Project Data to change your project properties:

Create a cover page as start page for all documentations

Add your company logo to the document – click on MDESIGN options and on General

And finally export your documentation to a PDF/A file, so you can send it to your customer:

Add the PDF/A properties press OK and save your calculation documentation:

If you want some of your calculation values not to be shown on the output document, use a right mouse
click on the input or output page so the values will be marked in blue, click again and they will be shown
again:
