The paper industry has been affected both positively and negatively recently.

Some of trends
seen in paper industry are:
 Green Trend: Moving towards a more eco-friendly, recyclable finished products.
 Mobile Trend: The shift in mobile technology has adversely affected the industry,
plunging the demand.
 Internet of things: This has affected the industry both positively and negatively. For
example, paper use has been reduced in office work but on the other hand, significant
increase in use of paper in packaging etc.

The paper industry of Bangladesh has taken a downfall because of Covid-19 pandemic. All the
schools, universities and offices are mostly conducting online operations and has resulted in an
immense loss for the paper industry. The consumption of paper has decreased by about 80% in
both publishing and wholesaling industry. Majority of the paper mills have been shut down due
to the decrease in demand, and the rest are only being ran at 15-20% capacity.
