QUESTIONS

A Normalmente, las preguntas se hacen cambiando el orden de las palabras; ponemos

el verbo auxiliar (AV) antes que el sujeto (S).

AFIRMATIVA PREGUNTA

S + AV AV + S
Tom is  Is Tom * Is Tom Australian?
They are  Are they *Are they Spanish?
*************************************** *Can she drive a car?
She can  Can she
*Have they got a car?
Have they  They have
B Si el verbo de la frase no es auxiliar (es decir, no es TO BE, CAN, HAVE,
WOULD o WILL) usamos el verbo auxiliar DO o DOES para el PRESENTE
SIMPLE y DID para el PASADO SIMPLE.

PRESENTE SIMPLE
AFIRMATIVA PREGUNTA
you live do you live *Do you live in London?
the film start does the film start *What time does the film start?

PASADO SIMPLE
AFIRMATIVA PREGUNTA
you arrived did you arrive *Did you arrive yesterday?
she went did she go *Did she go to the party?

C Si el verbo de la frase es DO necesitamos también el auxiliar DO o DOES para el

PRESENTE SIMPLE y DID para el PASADO SIMPLE. Esto es así porque la
Palabra DO tiene 2 funciones: (1) Verbo que significa “hacer” (eg: do a favour:
hacer un favor) y (2) VERBO AUXILIAR para PREGUNTAS, NEGACIONES y
RESPUESTAS BREVES.

AFIRMATIVA PREGUNTA
you do do you do *When do you do your homework?
he does does he do *What does he do for a living?

D La única vez que una pregunta no tiene verbo auxiliar es cuando WHO, WHAT o
WHICH es el sujeto de la frase. Compara:
who objeto who sujeto

En estos ejemplos, WHO,WHAT,WHICH es el sujeto:

*Who wants a piece of cake? (no “Who does want”)
*What happened to you last night? (no “What did happen”)
*Which bus goes to the city centre? (no “Which bus does go”)
