A7ReT Fritz Keeisiee was born in Vienna in 1875 in the era of elegance, romant ism and yaiety for which the city of that period was famed. He was a prodigy from childhood, winning many medals and the Grand Prix de Rome at the Patis Conservatory in competition with other aspirants most of whom were more then ewive his age. He rst came to America in 1888 on a concert tour when his genius was instantly acclaimed. Returning afterward to Vienna he laid aside his violin to study. medicine, as he had wanted for some time to follow the profession of his father, « doctor. His intensive medical studies were interrupeed by « period of military service during which time his violin remained unplayed. ‘After these varied experiences Kreisler knew thar he would sever be happy away from his beloved instrument, #0 at the turn of the century he began conce ng again after a lapse of ten oF more years As composer, Keeislee’s versatility is phenomenal, He has written n the manner of the classic, romantic and modem schools as well as innumerable works in his own inimitable style. He has composed in many forms—concertos, short instrumental works. chamber music, songs, operetta and even musical comedy. His published works number over 200.
