- fulfilling the promises of globalization & the solution to the problems of the contemporary
world does not lie on single entity or individual, but on citizens, the community, & the different
organizations in societies.
DYNAMICS OF GLOBALIZATION
- demands the efforts of the whole array of inter- governmental organization such as the United
Nations and the World Bank.
- international NGOs like Greenpeace and Amnesty International
- the citizen initiates and community action groups that reach above the nation- state level like the
World Social Forum and Occupy Movement

THERE ARE 3 APPROACHES TO GLOBAL ECONOMIC RESISTANCE


1. TRADE PROTECTIONISM – involves the systemic government intervention in foreign trade through
tariffs and non-tariff barriers in order to encourage domestic producers and deter their foreign
competitors.
2. FAIR TRADE – aims at a more moral and equitable global economic system.
3. BOTTOM BILLION – increasing aid is only one of the many measures that are required.

✓globalization from below – which may uphold progressive values such as autonomy, democracy, peace,
ecological sustainability, and social justice.
✓globalization from above – seek a more democratic process of globalization.

WORLD SOCIAL FORUM


– centered on addressing the lack of democracy in economic & political affairs.
- Cyberactivitism has been a significant influence on WSF

• some foresee the continuing expansion of globalization both in general as well as in more specific
globalization
•others have a far more pessimistic vision of “Mad Max” scenarios that could end the current era of
globalization.
