INTRODUCTION TO PEMRA

PEMRA stands for Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is a free-spirited and
constitutionally confirmed federal institution responsible for regulating and provide channel
licenses for demonstrate of the mass media culture, print and electronic media. PEMRA has been
formed under the Ordinance 2002 to facilitate and regulate the private electronic media. It has
approval to upgrade the quality of information, education and entertainment and to expand the
choice available to the people of Pakistan Including news, current affairs, religious knowledge,
art and culture as well as science and technology. This entity is responsible for lubricate and
regulating the formation and operation of all broadcast media and distribution services in
Pakistan established for the resolution of international, national, provincial, district, and local or
special target spectators. None of single entity can made their TV-Channel, Radio Station
without the license of PEMRA. PEMRA mandate to ensure responsibility, exposure and good
governance by expansion the free flow of information. PEMRA ratification to accelerate the
decentralization of responsibility and power to the grass roots by making better the access of the
people to mass media at the local and community level. PEMRA ensured the Independency,
security and integrity of the Islamic republic of Pakistan. PEMRA shall take the decision to
issue the license within one hundred days from the receipt of the organization and license only
issued to citizen of Pakistan.
KEY STAKEHOLDERS IN PEMRA
PEMRA create impact on the social, economic life of every individual through TV-Channels,
News-channels etc. The Key stakeholders in PEMRA are individuals, government, directors,
employees, government and its agencies, owners or shareholders, unions and the community
from where the PEMRA draws its resources. All the persons who are effected with the decisions
of PEMRA are stakeholders of PEMRA, key stake holders mainly are those who are running the
businesses through TV-channels, radio stations, cable-TV, satellite-TV, IP-TV and Mobile-TV.
Any decision from PEMRA can create effect on all of the entities for whom PEMRA issued the
license and same as the government is the major and key stakeholder in PEMRA any decision
from the government can create the impact on the functioning of PEMRA.
