Recommendation Letters

Through recommendation letters, members of the higher education and

professional communities explain why they believe you will be a good scholar
and healthcare provider.

 Only a writer who knows you well can write a strong letter.
 Whether the writer knows you is far more important than the writer’s title.
 Letters should express your competencies, citing evidence and personal
experiences.
 Letters more than 1 year old may not be accepted!
Clearinghouse Services for Med/Dent

 Give each writer the Letter of Evaluation Form

 Writers submit their letters to HPAC. HPAC saves them for at least 3 years.
 When you’re ready, HPAC compiles up to 5 letters of your choice into a
packet and distributes it to medical or dental schools.
Services for Qualifying Med/Dent:
Health Professions Evaluation (HPE)

 Faculty Interviews
UTD GPA >3.35; UTD BCPM GPA >3.35
At least 12 UTD credits, including 6 U.D. biosci or O.Chem
Complete Biographical Form and essays, revise them with advisor
 Committee Letter
Complete faculty interviews
All rec letters to HPAC before July 31
Receive MCAT >502 or DAT >17 by July 31
Timeframe for HPE

Like professional school admissions, HPE is a rolling process.

In a rolling process, the deadline is TOO LATE. Finish each step early!
 Oct 1-Dec 1 – Online Registration period
 Oct 1-Dec 15 – Submit complete Biographical Form and essays
 Oct 1-Mar 19 – Revise Biographical Form and essays with advisor
 Oct 1-Mar 22 – Submit revised Bio Form to receive interview
 Jan 1-July 29 – Have your recommendation letters sent to HPAC
 Oct 1-July 29 – Have your test scores sent to HPAC
