BY: CLENE DOCONTE BSA-3RD YEAR The Philippines. The Pearl of Orient Seas, a country that is full of wonderful places, places being visited by the tourists from different countries. Every country has its differing values and stereotypes, and the Philippines has no exception. Philippines, a great country with great people called Filipinos. Filipinos, people with such nice traits. Tan, the color of their skin, the color that makes many foreigners envy them. They have rich black hair that flows naturally. Twinkling eyes some have black ones, some have hazel brown. Filipinos believed that Philippines has the best values in the world. Although it has been colonized by several countries, many core values from ancestors remained intact and are still honored to this day. Filipinos are not perfect, but they have great characteristics and qualities that everyone should be proud of. 1am Clene Doconte, | am one of them, one of the “they”. 1 AM A FILIPINO, A PROUD ONE. | just can’t think why there are Filipinos who are not proud of our culture, our nationality, or even our country? What does it really mean to be a Filipino? Being a Filipino means being part of a wonderful culture. A culture filled with amazing foods, beautiful language and having a great homeland to go. Food is a very important part in Filipino’s life. As a Filipino youth, I’ve observed that Filipinos seem to live simply for the pleasure of eating. It seems that food and the Filipino have been deeply rooted together. In the Philippines, there are so many beautiful languages like Tagalog, llocano, Cebuano, Hiligaynon and many more. Although | couldn’t speak some languages of the Philippines, but | believe that it sounds eautiful once you hear it. Our homeland, the Philippines, is just so fous. Wherever you go in the Philippines, there is always somewhere exciting to go. There are lots of trails to walk and mountain views. These are some important things that we should be proud of being a Filipino. Additionally, being a Filipino means being part of a family, and supporting one another. You can see it whenever Filipinos are around. It doesn’t matter if we are blood related or not, the important is we are always there for one another. Just like in our current situation, all of us are facing the global pandemic COVID 19, it reminds us not to lose hope and to show the world that we Filipinos are great and strong people. In this case we can see how Filipinos help each other. We even did this to the people we didn’t even really know, but we Filipinos are doing this just to show our love to our fellowmen and to our country. We always love whoever comes in our way, we spread positive vibes and smiles even though in times of difficulties. Seeing every Filipino ready to help each other is inspiring and enough to feel proud to be a Filipino. Furthermore, being a Filipino also means being respectful and religious. From the moment we are born, we Filipinos are taught how to be respectful by using these simple catchphrases “po” and “opo”, words that end sentences when addressing elders. We have a culture of pagmamano, which is where we raise the backs of the hands of the elders to our foreheads as a sign of respect. WeFilipinos are also known for being religious because it is one of the most important aspects in our life. In all corners of a Filipino house, we can find brazen images of crosses and other religious paraphernalia. We Filipinos go to church every Sunday and always do the rosary. | know that it can strengthen our relationship with God and we will become closer to Him. Filipinos are different in unique ways. We view things in different perspective. We Filipinos are very resilient and optimistic in dealing problems, amidst the crisis we are experiencing, we never lose hope that something good will happen and everything will be fine. We should always think positive and be happy all the time. We Filipinos should help and love each other because if we truly love one another, then we will give the very best of ourselves just as God did for us. Also, in everything we do, we should always put God in the center of our lives because whatever happens, God is always there for us. God will never leave us. We should be thankful to Him for giving us the good traits and characteristics that makes us unique. Having this kind of traits makes me proud of who really am I, and because of that, | can say that “I AM A FILIPINO, A PROUD ONE”.
