Syllabus for Literature 611: Philippine Drama
2nd semester 2014-2015
Course Description:
A survey of Philippine dramatic forms from the pre-Spanish period to the present, that
aims to study the dramatic piece both as artistic expression of individual poetic vision as well as
cultural expression and social force through the different historical periods; relate the regional
dramas to the Philippine national experience; trace Western and indigenous influences in
comtemporary Philippine drama; and encourage literary research using interdisciplinary
approaches.
