Introduction
In case the visual inspection of the M72
stud bores in big end bearing housing
(BEBH) indicates pitting corrosion as
mentioned in service bulletin WS11Q500,
the big end bearing housing should be
replaced.
A BEBH spare part kit (111 038) has been
created.
Validity
Until further notice. Replacing issue 1 dated
28 June 2019.

Introduction
In case that corrosion is found within the criteria for component replacement as per
service bulletin WS11Q500, the big end bearing housing (BEBH) should be replaced.
A spare part kit (111 038) that contains the necessary spare parts for replacing the BEBH
has been created. The kit consists of the following parts:
· 111 004 Connecting rod lower part
· 111 018 Shim
· 111 037 Big end bearing kit

Ordering
When ordering BEBH spare part kit 111 038, contact your nearest Wärtsilä
representative. During the ordering process, please specify the engine serial
number(s), part number (111 038), quantity needed and refer to service bulletin
WS11P503.
It is recommended that piston overhaul set (912 003) is also ordered for replacement
work.

NOTE:
Wärtsilä also has a return process in place. In case that more BEBH kits (111 038) are
ordered, the return process guarantees that unopened kits can be returned to Wärtsilä.

Return instructions for unopened big end bearing spare part kit(s)
Big end bearing housing spare part kit (111 038) are packed separately as a kit to enable
return process.
Normal ordering, transportation and possible goods return practices shall be conducted.
All transportations, customs and other costs shall be borne by the customer. The
customer has the right to return unopened big end bearing housing spare part kits without
re-stocking fee and get refunding for the ones returned that are in acceptable conditions.
Wärtsilä General Terms and Conditions - Parts 2019, or later applies.

Recording the inspection results

During the inspection of the big end bearing housing the record WS11V521 “Visual
examination protocol for big end bearing housing M72 bore corrosion” should be filled in
and attached to the service work report.

ATTENTION:
In case that during the inspection of the M72 stud bore, pitting corrosion has been found,
housings need to be immediately scrapped to avoid any later usage. Related housings
can be marked e.g. with angle grinder. This also applies for M72 studs which can also
marked, e.g. by cutting the clear mark for threads.
