Depression seems to be spreading rapidly through the world, especially in specific age

groups. Personally, I have never experienced any sort of depression, so I have no firsthand
experience with this mental health affliction.
In my age group, specifically age 15 through age 24, there are many people that have or
have had depression in their life. This age group includes high schoolers and people who are
just starting in college. What I have noticed during these times is that when doing school, many
students will have a terrible sleep schedule. Many high schoolers will get only a few hours of
sleep due to staying with friends after school and coming home late, or it could be the
abundance of homework procrastinated until the last minute. Studies have shown that poor
sleep has a direct effect on mental health and can cause problems such as depression and
anxiety.
Whatever might be the cause of someone’s depression, a good friend to talk to or even to
just have around can always help someone with depression. If a friend is experiencing
depression, it is always good to be available to talk to. It can also help to invite the friend to an
outing or something fun to help relieve the depression.
Coping mechanisms can also be great to help with depression. In my age group, coping
mechanisms such as hanging out with friends regularly, or even having a pet around can help to
cope with depression and boost happiness. Hobbies have also been found to help with
depression. Having a good hobby and doing regular activity can help boost happiness and
having success in a certain hobby can give you a sense of accomplishment. Having that sense
of accomplishment can help someone feel happy and can relieve depression.
