Seasonal Potential of Gilgit Baltistan

The province observes harsh cold weather conditions, those that often result in
very low temperatures of up to -25°C. Such a severe drop in the temperatures &
considering the high altitudes, means certain districts receive tons of snowfall.
Which, as discussed earlier in the safety aspect as well, cause avalanches. Due to
the poor & loose quality of soil resting on the steep sides of the mountains and
hills, through which roads are carved & in valleys of which villages are found,
when are burdened with the weight of the snow become an impending disaster
ready to slide down. Life and property damages occur almost every year due to
this. So, to avoid this those areas which are known for these hazards are
cordoned off and thus tourists also prefer to not travel in those regions and
during the peak snow fall/low temperature part of the year which are just a few
winter months of November till March.
During the spring, autumn & summer season, however, the region sees a surge in
tourists visits, as weather is ideal for travelling. Lowest temperatures during
summer seasons are considered pleasant with lowest falling to an average of -1°C
in the entire province. There is snow on the peaks and sparsely in certain areas
yet it does not pose any threat. The Fairy Meadows in Diamir district is an
example of such a place which is unfavorable during the winter season yet most
beloved rest of the year especially spring & summers amongst all local and foreign
tourists.
