Missouri Learning Standards - Kindergarten
Differentiation, Individualization, & Personalization
Differentiation : The action or process of differentiating. (Using the same
curriculum, but balancing it out between higher and lower levels in students.)

Individualization : To adapt to the needs of an individual based on the students

abilities.

Personalization : The action of designing or producing something to meet

someone’s individual requirements.
Differentiation
I can make my MLS differentiated by taking the same measures that apply to the
standards, but allowing the students to get more involved with everything around
them. Letting them explore the world of art, and then applying it to the usual lessons.

One of the instructional strategies that I would use for this would be the grab bag,
but in presentation form. This way the students can continue learning about our
lessons, but learning about other forms of art they can use to complete the
assignments.
Individualization
I would make it individualized by understanding the needs of each and every
student, not just the class as a whole. For example, a student might not feel
comfortable speaking up during a lesson. So I would go out of my way to make sure
that they are understanding the criteria, without them answering out loud.

An instructional strategy I would use for this would be affinity. This way, students
will be able to write down their thoughts on a topic, instead of saying it out loud in
front of the class and feeling uncomfortable.
Personalization
The way I would personalize this would be, going by the MLS, but also teaching art or
kindergarten in my own way while changing some things for the students needs. This
way, I will have an easier time teaching the students and making sure they
understand the work.

An instructional strategy that would work for this would be Days. This would allow
me to create a themed activity based on the criteria in my own way, and I can also
make it so that all of the students enjoy it as well.
