Remarks 1. Materials, surface treatment ete. of the parts stipulated in this Standard shall meet the re- Quirements of NES M 0301 (Substance Use Restrictions) 2, MANUFACTURING METHOD (1) Bolts shall be manufactured by cold forging (2) Threads shall be formed by rolling, Bolts of property class 7T and ST are usually rolled before heat treatment. If required, they may be rolled after heat treatment. ~ 8, CLASSIFICATION, MATERIAL AND HEAT TREATMENT, (1) Property class, material and heat treatment of bolts are shown in Table 1 Application of each property class to bolt types shall be in accordance with each part standard. (2) Surface roughness of bolt shall be no greater than 3.2 u mR on the seat surface and no greater than 6.3 x mRa on the shank surface according to NES D 0005. Threads shall be finished smoothly (9) Allowable limits of surface discontinuity shall be in accordance with NES D 2108. (4) Surface of bolt with washer shall be smooth without quench crack, significant damage, residual bend, ‘ust or rough surface. The cutting edge of spring washer shall have no significant residual bend that can be trapped when itis completely compressed. 4.2 Washer assembly ‘The washer assembled to the bolt shall rotate freely and shall be retained by the threads, ‘There shall be no interference which is detrimental to use between chamfer undemeath the bolt head and the washer inner diameter 4.9 Mechanical properties 4.3.1 Mechanical properties of bolts are shown in Table 3. For property class ST bolts and bolts with spring washer or wave lock washer or conical spring washer, hysrogen embritlement shall be removed immediately after electro-plating For electro-zine plated bolts, hydrogen embritlement removal shall be carried out prior to chromating If the following conditions are satisfied, the process for elimination of hydrogen embrittlement may be omit- ted (1), For property class ST botts, the hydrogen embrittlement rate in the electro-zine plating bath obtained by the pressing bend test (18) shall be 78% max. (2) For bolts with spring washer or wave lock washer, the washer material shall be made with the patent- ing process. Note (13): Pressing bend test ‘The test pieces with and without the electro-zine plating shall be used forthe test. It isthe test to put the de- gree of the hydrogen embrittlement into a numeric value as the hydrogen embrittiemient rate using the fol lowing formula based on the feeding distance of the vice until the test piece is broken.
