THE BLACK DEATH

The Black plague, also known as the Black Death, was one of the worst pandemics suffered by
Europe in the fourteenth century, it is believed that the outbreak is a variant of the
bacteria Yersinia Pestis which would be transported by rats and transmitted through the fleas.
According to the sources, the plague originated in the river between the currently China and
India around 1330 and spread rapidly to Europe thanks to the Mongols, who had invaded until
they reached the west, later propagated by commercial routes that reached Italy through boats,
and from there, starting a fast relaxation of the plague around Europe.
At the time, the population was very faithful to God, therefore, they believed that
the mass deaths were due to the wrath of God. Something that helps the spread of the plague
was the Church, because they believed that the cats were sent by demons and decided to kill
them, as a result there was a rapid reproduction of rats among the population. The frequent
symptoms of the plague were black bumps on the skin and high fever, usually the patient died
within three days, and important people such as Queen Juana I of Naples and King Alfonso
XI. Also, one of the measures that used to stop it was to burn the bodies.
One of the famous people of the century that emerged were the doctors, the most important
people at that time, recognized for their terrifying costumes and their bird-shaped masks, which
were characterized by having a very long beak, inside them, they used aromatic plants to avoid
the smell of corpses because they believed that the disease was transmitted through him .
Finally, the disease ended with more than half of Europe, killing between 45 and 60 million
people.
