PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Security is a major concern in our day to day life, and digital locks have become an
important part of these security systems. There are many types of security systems but is it
suitable for handicap person? We would say 3 out of 10 products are all for normal people.
So, rather than find excuses we create a knock detecting support for door lock to our
handicap users. In project management there are five phases which are planning,
development, construct, costing and maintenance. Throughout these project phases there is
a need to constantly monitor and report, which is where project management tools come in.

PHASE I PLANNING

In this phase, our team is needed to observe and identify the problem in order to
create problem statements. A disabled or handicap person would have difficulties in doing
what it seems to be easy for a normal person but is harder for them, such as opening doors.
For some disabled people they find it hard to open doors due to their physical state.

We invented a device that could eased up the burden for disabled people to open
doors by using a changeable knocking pattern. Usually the common way of opening a locked
door is by using a key, however this solution device enables a disabled person to open their
doors by knocking a self-setting knock rhythm. The knock rhythm can be reset to a new
rhythm if needed.

PHASE II DEVELOPMENT

Development process is defined as system of defined steps and tasks such as

strategy, organization, concept generation, marketing plan creation, evaluation and
commercialization of a new product. It is a cycle by means of a community that converts idea
into commercially viable good and services. The concept or idea that we get is then
converted to an early sketch which is then finalized by using Autodesk software.

At the start of the project, we did make an early sketch for us to get the whole idea of
the product. The first sketch was made on an A4 paper as we draw to get the early idea of
the new cutting board. The further drawing or sketch is then proceeding on the Autodesk
software. This is to get clearer image with precise and detail dimension. The software gives
us a better medium to get the best image of the final design as we can choose the
dimension and material of the new cutting board.
PHASE III CONSTRUCT

OUR FIRST PROTOTYPE DESIGN

(Our first original design)

(Shows an isometric view of redesign of electronic box which is used to keep Arduino
system, circuit and also prevent from damage)
(C-shape stand for support on door lock)

(L-shape stand for extra balance of the entire device)

(Full result in 3D image after rework from original design)

Figure above shows drawing of machine using Inventor software. It is applied to

analyse more detail of major and minor part of Vibration activated door locking system. This
machine main parts are piezo, clamp, sensor for Arduino application and push button.

Isometric view represents shapes of design into three- dimensional view. An angle of
30 degrees is taken in all its sides in order to give a 3D look. Drawing isometric projection
actually means representing the proper accurate drawing with some traditional equipment
like Set squares, T- squares, electronic box and some other measuring measures.

PHASE V MAINTENANCE

The device is detachable so it can separate part by part (except for mainboard). The
materials it used is a high quality plastic than can endure drop from 3metres high. It also has
strong claw grip that can twist the door lock and holder to attach on the door.

Here is a breakdown of how to do the maintenance of the device. Separate each part
and wipe with a wet cloth. The lubricant on claw can be apply under the mainboard. Use a
dry cloth to wipe in order to remove any excess oil. The mainboard can be open to replace
old battery.
