World Language Syllabus Update

Alpharetta High School / Spring Semester 2021

GRADING CATEGORIES
Summative Grades 60% (tests, PBAs, major projects)

Formative Grades 20% (homework / classwork, quizzes)*

Final Exam 20%

* homework / classwork will be weighted at 1.0
while quizzes will be weighted at 2.0

LATE WORK POLICY

Students may submit late work up to five days late without penalty. After 5 days, there will be
a 20% deduction, making the highest possible grade an 80.
Formatives will be taken for a late grade until the end of a unit (as defined by the teacher).
After this time, the assignment will not be accepted for a grade.

RECOVERY (only 79 and below & 1 attempt)

Students may only recover Summatives. Recovery must be completed before the next
summative is given. Recovery will be either test corrections or a re-test, as determined by the
teacher. The highest grade you can earn on a recovered summative is a 79%.

INCENTIVES
If students do 100% of the formative work leading to a particular summative, they will earn 5
extra points towards that summative(s) (plural in the case where two summatives are given in
the same week. i.e., a listening and reading parts of a test if they count for two different
grades.)
