2. Welding of trunk according to sketch 30,10267. Heating around the Neck Bearing must not
exceed 100°C. "Temperature Marking Chocks" should be used. High heat input may cause ovality
and misalignment in the Neck Bearing.
3. - Ovality in Neck
Check horizontal and vertical alignment of the trunk after finished welding.
Bearing and misalignment in ~ r ~ must

4. Install lubrication pipes with fittings as shown below. The inlets in the end of the pipes must be
prepared for a grease-filling device, and we recommend a swan's neck pipe in the ventilation hole.
Check that grease is penetrating through the inlets. Leakage test to be performed.

INSTALLA TlON OF RUDDER
P. S. Apply liquid gasket on all flange connections and grease all 0-Rings.
1. Clean the rudder stock, and check threads and cone surfaces for wounds and scratches.
2. Lift the rudder stock into the trunk using the lifting eye in the upper end. Normally the rudder
stock is lifted from underside of vessel. If lowered from top of trunk, the trunk has to be specially
prepared for this. The rudder stock is to be adjusted to approx. correct height.
3. Prepare the hull with brackets, according to sketch below.
4. Clean the cone surface in the rudder blade. Insert both mating cone surfaces with hydraulic oil.
5. Asscmble thc Seal ring with 0-Ring to top of the rudder blade.
6. Asscmblc the Seal housing with 0-Ring and scalings to trunk without tightening the screws. Make
sure thc Stay pin for link mechanism fit thc housing in trunk. NR: It is very important to -set the
sealings in with -and fill nrease between the sealings before installed in housing.

ift the rudder blade using brackets welded to the hull, connected to shafts through the holes in the
blade.
Lift the blade till the rudder stock is entering the hub.
Lower the mdder stock into the rudder blade hub and mount the hydraulic nut with pressure
washer.
Connect one pump to upper and lower inlet in the blade (PI) and one to the nut (P2).
Pump the P2 inlet to reach the P2 pre-pressure. This is point of zero.
Start pumping pressure also in the P1 inlet, and continue increasing pressure in both PI and P2
until the correct pressures are obtained. Thcse pressures are round in "Rudder Coupling Data" in
the Technical Specification section.
Check that the pressure washer is in contact with both rudder stock and blade. If not the pressures
must be increased. When the distance washcr is in contact, the c o m c t pull-up is reached. Pump
pressure and pull-up length must be recorded.
. I
19. Fasten Nut on Stay pin, and secure by welding a st. less rod to nutlstay pin.
20. Tighten screws for the Seal housing.
21. Lower the rudder stock and blade to reach the given jumping lock distance. Use measure gauge.
Note 2:
Thc Rudder is dcsigncd for an opcration angle of 4-1- 45'. Makc surc that both rudder blade and flap arc
at "0" posilion at samc time. If adjusting is rcquircd, plcasc scc thc chaptcr Coupling Fccdcr.

DISMOUNTING OF RUDDER BLADE
If the rudder has heel connection or wire guard, this has to be removed as a first step in this procedure.
Further for dismounting the rudder blade, please follow steps below.
Note: Make sure the stay will follow the rudder blade when lowered.

(Yard equipment - optional delivery by Rolls-Royce Marine AS)
Sketch above is showing the underside of hydraulic nut. Flat-iron to be welded approx. as shown.
Length per weld (4 pcs.) on underside rudder stock to be min. 70mm. The flat-iron may be split in two
pcs. with a min. length according to welding.

COUPLING FEEDER
The torque between link mechanism and flap is transmitted through a coupling on top of the flap. To
disconnect or adjust the flap this coupling has to be opened.

CA THODIC PROTECTION
As for the hull itself, cathodic protection has to be performed also for the rudder blade. We recommend
I kg anode per lrn' of the rudder blade area, for two years operation. This is 0,Skg per lm' surface area.
The quantities will vary according to rudder blade area (b x h) and lifetime.
Note: If the vessel has installed an impressed current system, no additional cathodic protection is
necessary.
RolIs-Royce
LUBRICATION IN TRUNK /a
This chapter is provided pipe installation according to the chapter "Installation of Trunk". In the
steering gear room it will now be one inlet (1) for lubrication of neck bearing, one inlet (2) for first
time filling and outlet (3).
MARKING OF INLETS
We recommend marking the inlets in the steering gear room. This is to simplify and assure future use.
The marking should be made at a visible spot near the inlet.
V c r t i crisn
Make sure that the trunk is complete filled with grease as long as the rudder is mounted in the
vessel.
