CHECK CARBURETOR AND LINKAGE (a) Check that the various sot sorews, plugs and union bolts ee tight and correctly installed (6) Check the linkage for excessive wear and missing snap rings. {c) Check that the throttle valves open fully when the accelerator pedals fully depressed, 3, CHECK FLOAT LEVEL Check that the float level is even with the correct level in the sight alas I not, check the carburetor needle valve and float level, and aglust or repair, a5 necessary. REMOVE AIR CLEANER (a) Disconnect the air intake hose (b] Disconnect the emission control hoses from the air cleaner. {c)_ Remove the mounting bolts and butterfly nut, {a} Life the sircleaner off the carburetor. 2, DISCONNECT ACCELERATOR CABLE FROM CARBURETOR 3, DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE FOR AUTOMATIC ‘TRANSMISSION, 4, DISCONNECT WIRING CONNECTOR 5, DISCONNECT FOLLOWING HOSES FROM (CARBURETOR: {a} Emission control hoses NOTE: Bofore disconnecting the vacuum hoses, use tags to ndieatfy how they should be roconnested, (0) Fuel inlet hose (6) Canister nose 6, REMOVE CARBURETOR (2) Remove the carburetor mounting nus (b] Remove the cold mixture heater wire clamp (USA) and lft out the EGR vacuum modulator bracket. ()_Liftout the carouretor. () Cover the inlet hole of the intake manifold with a shop cloth, Fue FUEL SYSTEM — Carburetor DISASSEMBLY OF CARBURETOR (See pages FUS, 6) NOTE: To conform with USA nd Canada the ile mixture adjusting screw is adjusted = with a stool plug by the manufacture. Normal hould not be removed ‘The following instructions are orgenized so th work on only one component group at 8 tim help avoid confusion between similariooking Ciffeent subassemblies being on your work (a) To facilitate reassembly, arange parts in 0 () Be earful not to mix up or lose balls, (e)_ Use carburetor driver set SST 09860-1101 Disassembly of Air Horn (See page FU) 1, REMOVE AIR HORN ASSEMBLY (2) Dinuunnect the choke lnk {0} Disconnect the pump connecting rod. {c) Remove the pum arm pivot serew and pu (6) Disconnect the choke breaker vacuum he only) (6) Remove the union and fuel pipe (Remove the eight sir horn screws (@)_ Disconnect the choke link (hn) Life the air horn with gasket from the bod (il Dizconnect the wires from the connector. (i) Remove the st and 2nd solenoid valy body. 2, REMOVE FLOAT AND NEEDLE VALVE {a} Remove the float pivot pin, float and subassembly (b) Remove the airhorn gasket [e)_ Remove the needle valve seat and gasket FUEL SYSTEM — Carbureto Fus 3. REMOVE POWER PISTON AND PUMP PLUNGER (a) Remove the power piston retsner (1, power piston (2) and spring (0) Pullout the pump plunger (3) and remove the boot. DISASSEMBLE CHOKE VALVE (CANADA only) (a) Remove the thre coll housing set serews, coil hous Ing and gasket. NOTE: Remove the following part only if tis necessary ‘to replace the choke shaft or choke breaker. (2) Remove the three thermostat housing serews and ‘thermostat housing (e) Disconnect the choke breaker link and remove the ‘choke breaker eiaphragm, (a) Remove the choke lever screw, choke lever, choke breaker relief lever and washers. {e) Remove the fast idle lever screw and lever. REMOVE SIGHT GLASS RETAINER, SIGHT GLASS AND O-RING ON © weigh and REMOVE THROTTLE LEVER AND FAST IDLE CAM SUBASSEMBLY {a) Remove the throttle return spring {b) Remove the throttle back spring. {e) remove the nut and tneorse lever. [)_Remave the bolt and the fast dle cam. REMOVE SECONDARY THROTTLE VALVE DIAPHRAGM (a) Disconnect the link. Separate the body and flange al al FUEL SYSTEM — Carburetor GENERAL CLEANING PROCEDURE CLEAN DISASSEMBLED PARTS BEFORE INSPE (a) Wash and clean the east parts with a soft carburetor cleaner {o} Clean off the carbon around the throttle val (el Wash the other parts thoroughly in « (4) Blow all dit and other foreign mater fror fuel passages and eesrlctions in the body. INSPECTION OF CARBURETOR 1. INSPECT FLOAT AND NEEDLE VALVE (a) Inspect the pivet pin (1) for scratches anc (©) Inspect the flost (2) for broken lips and Pivot pin holes Inspect the spring (8) for breaks end defor {d) Inspect the needle valve (4) and plunger ( cor damaee. le) Inspect the strainer (6 for rust and breaks. 2, INSPECT POWER PISTON Make sure that the power piston moves smoothh 3, INSPECT POWER VALVE Check for faulty opening and closing action. 4, INSPECT FUEL CUT SOLENOID (a) Connect the solenoid valve body and tern battery terminals, (b) You should feel the click from the sot when the battery power Is connected « nected Ifthe solenoid vale is not operating property, (ec) Replace the O-ring hie lck wire LN [BATTERY FUEL SYSTEM — Carburetor Fuss 5, INSPECT SECOND FUEL CUT SOLENOID VALVE (2) Connect the terminal tothe bettary terminals (0) You should feel the click from the solenoid valve whan the battery power is connected and discon- nected, {f the solenoid valve i not operating properly, replace it. (e) Replace the O-ring 6. INSPECT CHOKE HEATER (USA only) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminal (2) and thermostat housing. Resistance: 18.2. Ifa problem is found, lace the air horn assembly. 7. INSPECT COIL HOUSING (CANADA only) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resitonce between the terminal and coil housing. sistance: 21. I & problem is found, replace the coll housing ASSEMBLY OF CARBURETOR (See pages FUS, 6) NOTE: Use new gaskets and O-rings throughout, Assembly of Carburetor Body (S00 pages FU-5, 6) 1, ASSEMBLE CARBURETOR BODY AND FLANGE (a). Place the gasket and body onto the flange (6) Install a vacuum passage bol, as shown, (6h Install the three bolts 2. FUEL SYSTEM — Carburetor fl Sag saute INSTALL CHECK BALLS FOR ACCELERATION {a) Install the discharge large ball, long spring, pump di charge weight and stopper gasket (0) Using tweezers, insert the plunger small ball and retainer, INSTALL THROTTLE POSITIONER | Assembly of Air Horn (See pages FU5, 6) 1 INSTALL CHOKE SHAFT (CANADA only) (a) Install the choke chat (0) instal the choke valve with new serews. NOTE: Crimp the serow. {e) Install the fast ile lever withthe seew. {a} Install the wather and choke breaker relief lever (6) Install the choke lever and washer with the screw. (#1 Connect the choke breaker link to the choke breaker rele lever, (@) Install the thermostst case over the choke breaker
