1.0-type Exmor™ R CMOS sensor NXCAM camcorder with maximum 48x zoom lens and 3 independent
manual lens rings recording XAVC S, AVCHD and DV
Overview
Full-HD compact handheld NXCAM camcorder with professional features and 1.0-type Exmor™ R CMOS sensor
HXR-NX100 NXCAM camcorder comes with Sony’s unique 20 mega pixel 1.0-type Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS
sensor that delivers high resolution and fantastic low light performance, as well as offering more depth of field
control as demanded by today’s diverse shooting requirements.
Three independent manual lens rings provide excellent creative control. A fixed Sony G series lens achieves 12x
optical zoom, which can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom making use of the 1.0 type sensor to still deliver
a native resolution 1920x1080 image. You can also double the zoom again using a sophisticated Digital Extender for
a maximum 48x zoom.
There is also a ND Filter function, allowing you to choose four conventional mechanical ND filter positions that will
enhance your ability to work in any shooting scenario. Additional advanced features include dual media slots,
“SIMUL” or “RELAY” recording, and independent record control. The HXR-NX100 also has the ability to record
AVCHD, DV and XAVC S 50Mbps for multiple choices and high quality images.
Professional audio quality is made easy thanks to XLR connectors as standard and Multi Interface (MI) Shoe
supporting fully integrated wireless audio solutions, such as Sony’s UWP-D range.
• “ The Grand One” 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS Sensor for stunning picture quality even in low light conditions
The sensor, which is approximately the same size as a Super 16mm film frame, delivers high resolution and
fantastic low light performance, as well as offering more depth of field control as demanded by today’s
diverse shooting requirements.
High sensitivity and fantastic resolution with 20 mega pixels*1 delivers striking detail and colours, with
minimum illumination 1.7 lux *2.
HXR-NX100 1
*1 14,2 million effective pixels.
*2 NTSC model: 1/30 second shutter speed, Iris and gain Auto.
PAL model: 1/25 second shutter speed, Iris and gain Auto
The lens offers a 12x optical zoom from 29mm angle of view at wide end, which can be increased to 24x
with Clear Image Zoom while retaining full resolution thanks to Sony’s unique By Pixel Super Resolution
Technology, giving a crisp and high resolution feel that is nearly identical to optical zoom. Zoom
performance can be doubled at any point with a Digital Extender by up to 48x.
Professional features include 3 independent manual lens rings that can intuitively control zoom, focus and
iris, dual memory card slots for backup, simultaneous and relay recording, a built-in four-step ND filter for
better exposure control in bright scene, 0.24 type 1550K dots EVF and 3.5 type 1550K dots LCD for easy
monitoring, and wide variety of professional interfaces, including HDMI, Multi/Micro USB, XLR terminals,
REMOTE, Composite (BNC) and Multi Interface (MI) Shoe, delivering a seamless integration for video light
and wireless audio.
Provides multiple choices including AVCHD and DV which are suitable for conventional workflow, and
newly implemented XAVC S 50Mbps which realizes better image quality.

Features
• “ The Grand One” 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor for a wide range of shooting conditions
The HXR-NX100 incorporates a 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor which is approximately the same size as Super
16mm film frame to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and wide dynamic range. The sensor
has a resolution of 20 mega pixels* enhancing shooting under severe lighting conditions and providing more
freedom of creative expression.
Thanks to the 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor, the HXR-NX100 has high sensitivity - 1.67 stops brighter than a
1/2.88-type sensor. The camcorder also has higher resolution than any other camcorder in its price range.
The 1.0 type sensor is brighter and offers more bokeh with a shallow depth of field than 1/2.88-type or smaller
sensors.
• Sony G lens
The "G Lens" is Sony’s original camera lens, designed and manufactured to the highest standards of optical
performance. Through original Sony technologies, the "G Lens" achieves superb clarity and sharpness that
maximizes the performance of Sony’s advanced imaging sensors and camera systems. The HXR-NX100 is
supplied with a fixed 29 mm wide-angle Sony G lens. Ideal for capturing grand landscapes, it also provides
up to 12x optical zoom.
The 12x optical zoom can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom which is a Sony unique technology that
incorporates By Pixel Super Resolution Technology that analyzes the input image to maintain full resolution. In
addition, Digital Extender can double this range again, up to 48x zoom.
The HXR-NX100 features an all-new chassis designed around its class-leading 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor.
An advanced ergonomic design ensures using its professional manual controls, is intuitive and similar to other
Sony professional cameras, so whether shooting in auto or manual mode, the camera is exceptionally easy
to use.
The three lens rings enables smooth, natural adjustment of focusing, zooming and iris control. It can also be
used in full-auto mode or completely manual for maximum creative control.
The HXR-NX100 is equipped with a ND Filter function, allowing you to choose four conventional mechanical
ND filter positions (Clear, 1/4ND, 1/16ND and 1/64ND) for better exposure and depth of field control in bright
scene).
• Dual media slots, “SIMUL” or “RELAY” recording, and independent record control
The HXR-NX100 is equipped with two memory card slots. The camcorder is compatible with SDXC and SDHC
cards as well as Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. Two media slots can
record in either “SIMUL” or “RELAY” mode. “SIMUL” mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory
cards, while “RELAY” mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when
the first is full. The user can set up the two Start/Stop buttons on the HXR-NX100, one on the grip and one on
the camcorder body, to independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording
in “SIMUL” mode.
