WAS WASTE, HAS HASTE

GRADED ASSIGNMENT #1

Answer the following questions in not more than two sentences each.

1. Summarize all the methods into two categories only and differentiate the two.
(clue: take note on what is being used in the different methods presented)

The methods of determining the parameters can be generally categorized into a

colorimetric method and an electrometric method. A colorimetric method can
be done using an indicator, while the electrometric method can be done using
different electrodes and other highly precise instruments.

2. Explain the importance of oxygen in the decomposition of pollutants in the

wastewater.

Microorganisms break down pollutants in wastewater like biodegradable organics

through the aid of oxygen. Once the oxygen is introduced, the microorganism
can oxidize the organic wastes into stable end products.

3. Go back to the purposes of measuring BOD. Infer the connection between the four
reasons of measuring BOD. (clue: take note of the way it was presented)

The four purposes of BOD measurement can be compressed into its principal
objective: to determine the approximate quantity of oxygen. When we know the
amount of oxygen, we can determine the size of waste treatment facilities,
measure some treatment processes' efficiency, and check if the wastewater
discharge permit complies.
