REFLECTING ON CUTS

Choose at least three contaminants and in not more than four sentences, discuss how
you can help in your own little ways in reducing these pollutants.

Pollutants:

1. Suspended solids
2. Biodegradable organics (vegetable and fruit peelings)
3. Heavy metals (batteries, old cellphones)

A river surrounds our barangay, and most of our neighboring households dump
biodegradable organics and some heavy metals in the river. Our community has an
inadequate waste treatment facility, and or material recovery facility is mostly unused. I
want to work with our local government, specifically in our barangay's youth sector, to
teach our neighboring households, including ours, about the detrimental effects of these
pollutants on aquatic organisms. Then, by being a good example of not dumping waste
in water bodies, my family will encourage more families to contribute to the betterment
of aquatic life.
