Additional Activities

As what was stated in the first few pages of this module, Research is an integral part

of learning about life. It gives us hope to know the right information, develops and improves the

attitude to not believe everything easily available and go on one track, and sharpens the brain to

be more informative and gives it a sensible vision to look in life. Based on the research of Sage

Pub’s Mike Allen (2017), it was said that Quantitative research is used by social scientists,

including communication researchers, to observe phenomena or occurrences affecting

individuals. Social scientists are concerned with the study of people and this can be used in

various disciplines that will absolutely help us with our daily living.

First is in Anthropology, research explores the concept of culture and its relationship

to human life in different times and places to help the Anthropologists and even us. Then, in the

field of communication, research looks to help people understand communication in terms of

connecting to other people. In the side of Medical Education, research helps us especially the

people in this field in terms of medicines and how to prevent and cure diseases. Behavioral

Science and Education & Psychology with regards to research, they conducted these to help us

understand ours and others’ actions, way of thinking, and the way we influence others. Last is

the Social Sciences, which purpose in researching is to lecture us about leadership, motivation,

personality, and principles of life. All of these disciplines use Quantitative Research for these

require investigation of observable phenomena using statistical or computational techniques. For

the fields of disciplines, there is really a need to use Quantitative Research to be able to come up

with theories and hypotheses pertaining to the topic.

Like what University of Leicester (n.d.) has included in their research, Quantitative

approach is more reliable and objective, can use statistics to generalise a finding
often reduces and restructures a complex problem to a limited number of variables, and tests

theories or hypotheses. This is to help professionals and even us to gain information about the

phenomenons happening around us. Research is very necessary for us, for our daily lives. It

keeps us sane, smart, practical, and make things easier for us.
