A.

SUMMARY

The topic I will be exploring for my research paper is elder fraud. I have selected

this as my topic since I am close with my grandma and I wanted to do something that

could relate to her in some way. My guiding questions for this project are the following:

● What is the best way to inform and spread information about this topic to my

target audience?

● What current frauds are being done against the elderly?

● What are the tell-tale signs that someone is trying to commit a fraud against you?

● What has already been done to counteract this issue and how can it be

expanded upon to better eliminate the problem?

For my project, I am planning on making an informational packet that details common

frauds, explains what to look out for, and provides how to check if something is real or a

fraud. I will work with my consultant on making sure all the necessary information is

included in the packet. Once the packet is created, I will deliver it to several seniors I

know through my grandma. I will determine if my packet supports my goals by checking

to see if they are able to understand the information given to them in the packet and

would be able to take the necessary precautions to protect against fraud. I will know if

the precautions are implemented since I would be in contact with them through my

grandma’s senior center. I would be able to answer any questions they might have or

help them if needed. My consultant will be Queen Fitzhugh from the Senior Center at

the Kempsivlle Recreational Center. At the center, she is in charge of the Forever
Young program which gives older adults a places to socialize and attend different

events designed for them. She would make a good consultant as she has personally

worked with seniors for many years now and would be able to tell me what would be

good to include on the packet and what would be the best way to format it. I do not have

a faculty advisor for my project.

C. PROJECT-PAPER CONNECTION – In a paragraph, explain the link

between your project and the legal issue you have chosen to analyze.

The best way to counteract fraud is for someone to know what is happening to

them, so they avoid falling victim to the scammer. That is why my project is focused on

educating the elderly about frauds, as it will enable them to be better equipped to

recognize when someone is trying to scam them. My project will do this by creating

easily accessible resources that inform seniors of the necessary information they need

to know in order to prevent being caught up in a scam. In order to ensure that people

know about this resource, I will work with the senior center to deliver informational

packets to several senior citizens in the area.

D. ACADEMIC HONESTY

I understand that any academic dishonesty by me on any part of the project/paper will

result in failure of the Senior Project and forfeiture of the Legal Studies Seal on my High

School diploma.
