Biology Major

Quynh Anh N Do
Why I Choose This Major

(1)I’m aiming to get into dental schools after graduating, so I

need to have a strong science foundation, which leads me to
choose science major for a college degree. (5)(7)One of the
easiest among them is Biology, which will give me the best
shot at getting the highest possible GPA to be admitted into
dental schools as well as some peace of mind compared to
harder majors such as Chemistry and Physics.
Universities and
entrance
requirements
(3) Biology is kind of a general major so many or most of
CA and CSU offer that major. I’d rather choose a nearby
university for convenience in commuting, such as the
SDSU and UCSD.

(2) The SDSU would not require SAT or ACT if I’m

intending to apply in Fall 2021. That would leave a
higher focus on GPA. The average GPA is 3.7, but I’ll aim
for at least a 3.9. There is, of course, the G-A
requirements, and applyers into science majors would
be considered to be admitted with a strong grade in
science or math during high school.
Entrance
requirements
(2) For transfer admissions into SDSU in spring or fall
2021, admissioners were required to complete at
least 60 transferable semester units, including 30
units of the GE requirements as well as the Golden
Four courses. The Golden Four courses requires the
completion of communication/public speaking,
composition, writing and a math course whose level is
above intermediate algebra. The university also
requires taking preparation courses for college
majors beforehand . Details or the courses could be
found in The Transfer Admission Planner (TAP) or
ASSIST website (assist. org).
Prerequisite courses
(2)Using the ASSIST website, I can figure out the number of
transferable courses from Grossmont College to SDSU for year
2020-2021 (2022 not yet available) that will fill out the
prerequisite for Biology I’m aiming to major in. There were at
least ten courses to take, not counting the prerequisite for each
course, all or which are biology courses. (6)(4)Here is the list of
Grossmont courses transferable to SDSU that will satisfy the
required courses for Biology major: BIO 120, BIO 230, BIO 240,
BIO 152, BIO 140, BIO 144, BIO 145, BIO 215, and BIO 141
(including labs).
