Nguyễn Hồ Hồng Phúc-Assignment of Unit 8

Topic: Make a video/recording to compare your hometown city and your current city
Script:
So I’m originally from Bến Tre city, but now I live and work in Ho Chi Minh city. I was born and
raised in a remote, rural area where livestock and poultry run freely everywhere. Until
eighteen years old, I came to Ho Chi Minh city to study at the university of technology and
have been staying in this modern city since then. The lifestyle and living pace here is quite
different from my hometown. I was kind of amazed and slightly confused when I first came
here. Back in Ben Tre, my life was kinda simple, I had a straightforward daily routine, woke
up, prepared breakfast, went to school, came back home, etc.. My day used to start at five
a.m and end at nine p.m. There was not much in the ways of entertainment in my hometown -
just a few houses had a television which didn’t have many channels and only a place to rent
books and magazines, which was far from my house. Those were quiet and peaceful old
days. My hometown was full of fresh air and tranquility. On the other hand, Ho Chi Minh city
surprises me with its bustling, dynamic lifestyle and cultural diversity. Sleek skyscrapers,
beautiful shopping malls, crowded places and traffic jams. This city seems like it never
sleeps, you always can find a place to entertain from dust till dawn, from overnight pubs to
eateries that offer late-night bites. People from all over the country gather here, engaging in
the diversity of culture and society. Northern, Middle, Southern, you can find almost every
accent of Vietnam in here. A variety of different origin delicious dishes can also be found
here, from bun thang, bun cha to bun bo Hue. The city is also full of traffic congestions,
construction sites, air and noise pollution. Fresh air seems to be something luxurious in this
modern city, the air is polluted by thick black smoke that is belching out from vehicles as
millions of cars and motorbikes clog the city's streets on a daily basis. In peak hours, you can
easily find yourself stuck in traffic jams, under the heat and dusk, and gas emissions from
motor vehicles. My hometown is not developed and crowded like Ho Chi Minh city, but it's
more peaceful and less polluted than this current city.
