Test blocks for Magnetic Particle Testing

Reference Block No.1 acc. to DIN EN ISO 9934-2

The reference block No.1 is a permanently magnetized disc with coarse and
fine natural cracks on the surface. The estimation of magnetic particle
suspension quality is to be made by visual or photographic comparison with
the reference indication.

Reference Block No.2 acc. to DIN EN 9934-2

The block consists of two soft iron bars, separated by a thin
(15µm) Al-foil, representing an artificial defect. Permanent
magnets are set on the sample ends. The quality of the
suspension or dry powder is to be estimated over the summarized
length of the lines.

Berthold Magnetic Field Indicator

for detecting field direction and assuring adequate field strength
The field indicator is a soft iron cylinder divided into four sections by a 0,15 mm
tick nonferromagnetic material. A thin nonferromagnetic metal foil covers the
cylinder. When placed on a magnetized test piece, the magnetic field lines pass
through the sectioned iron cylinder. The cuts on the iron cylinder will be visible
when magnetic powder or magnetic suspension is applied. The field direction is
perpendicular to the flaw at maximum indication.

D 250 Magnetic Field Indicator

for localization of magnetic fields and their directions during MT
The gage is a disk of soft iron divided into eight sections by a nonferromagnetic
material. Under sufficient magnetization a clearly defined indication is formed cross
to the field direction when magnetic particle suspension is applied.

Burmah Castrol Magnetic Flux Indicators

Flexible strips used for indication of induced magnetic fields.
The indicator (50x12x0,15 mm) consists of 3 laminations. The inner lamination of nickel-iron-
alloy has 3 interruptions of 42 mm which are parallel to the long side. The outer laminations
are of a nonferromagnetic material.
Type I: general engineering. Type II: aerospace applications.

ASTM Ketos Tool Steel Ring / Aerospace Tool Steel Ring

The sample is a ring with 12 (9) holes drilled at different distances from the edge. Under
magnetization via central conductor magnetic particles accumulate on the ring edge over
the cylindrical holes forming indication lines when the magnetic suspension is applied.
