The nurse provided information on the patient being ‘David Gibson with address of 617 N. Leamington, Chicago. The nurse gave information that he ws shot by a guy he was trying to buy ‘something from on “some little street in Elmhurst. Upon artval atthe Emergency Room of the hospital, Officer Corrigan and | met with Gibson who was treated for @ gun shot wound to his left thigh. Gibson was conscious and alert as we spoke to him. In summary, Gibson related that on today’s date he arranged to meet with @ mutual friend in the area of|-290 and North Ave. When specifically asked where he met him, Gibson stated he was west ofthe 1-290 and North Ave, and he drove toa side street but doesn't remember the name of the street. He related he was going to purchase an “object” for $550 from the fiend and the friend was on foot who entered his vehicle while parked on the side street. Gibson stated that he was looking over the object and decided he would buy it, so he handed over the money. Gibson stated he was then shot in the leg and the guy took off running away. When asked what he was shot with, Gibson stated it was a 40 caliber. He stated even though he is paralyzed he has some sensation in his leg and it felt wet, so he knew he was hit. He stated he drove himself in his gray Mazda Sto the hospital, When asked ifthe object was a gun, Gibson later admitted that was what he was there to buy and during the struggle for the gun it went off. Gibson stated he wouldn't give any information on who shot him because he was nota snitch. He related he was a felon and not allowed to have a gun, but he needs to have one to protect himself. Gibson stated he would not give consent to search his vehicle or cell phone when asked. He related he was not going to get anyone in rouble. | informed Gibson that we were going to pursue search warrants for the vehicle and for the cell phone as it related to a crime that occurred in Elmhurst. While standing nest tothe bed of Gibson, his Apple Phone was on his lap and I picked up his cell phone and stated that we are seizing the phone at this time {As | had the cell phone in my hand, Gibson reached over and grabbed the phone from my hand and pulled it to his chest, Officer Corrigan and | grabbed a hold of the phione and attempted to get it back announcing for him to lett go. | advised hospital staf to contact security as we struggled to pull the phone away. While grabbing ahold ofthe phone, Gibson bit my left forearm causing me to release my grip of the phone. | Was wearing a thick winter coat and could feel an immediate burning sensation in my forearm. | yelled out that | was bit and Hospital security arrived in the room and pulled Gibson off ofthe bed. We where finally able to pull the cell phone out of Gibson's hands as he squeezed the phone so hard the screen was completely cracked, Gibson was placed back onto the bed and yelled out that we could not have his phone, | pulled back my coat and long sleeve shirt to find my the wound on my forearm was red in color and swollen. It did not appear that t broke skin and | was treated at the hospital where the doctor confirmed that he did nat break skin. Officer Corrigan took pictures of my injury along with Gibson's gun shot wounds, Sot Mandot checked surveillance vdeo fom the hospital to observe Gibson arve athe hospital ERin hs gray Mazda 5 (eisai 2 1226 hous appeared that Gibson was the one occupant ofthe veh. Hospital secur patted the vehicle in an edjacnt paling lt ‘The vehicle was located in the lot unoccupied and registration was checked to find it was registered to Gibson. The vehicle was towed to the station, Gibson's clothing was seized atthe hospital and transported to the police department. Before being placed in the drying cabinet by Officer Lange, he locsted a lve 40 caliber round in the front left pant pocket. Search warrant 20SW'1950 was drafted and signed by Judge Schwartz for the search ofthe gray Mazda, During the execution of search warrant +#2020SW1950, Oficer Lange and Detective Jarette located a red colored stain on the driver seat which later field tested positive or blood. Gibson's (disassembled) wheetchair was found in the middle row, passenger side seat. A blue towel was found on the seat of the wheel chait with what appeared to be wet red colored stains on it. Additionally, a small puncture was located on the left side of the chair, through the cushion and sidewall ofthe chair consistent with damage caused by a projectile, Gibson was later released from the hospital and transported via Superior ambulance to the Elmhurst Police Department Detective Lafin located a Facebook page belonging to Gibson being - hitps//www facebook cam/davidgibso Posted on his Facebook pages were multiple pictures of Gibson along with the following post at 1359 hours: "Tweaking just straight shot my self Incident Report renee omnes tsermsrsr INScRAVATED BATTERY (FICERCORRECTONG RE in 8 8 {A search through TLO located a listed address for Gibson being 3150 Finley Rd. Downers Grove. Detective Jarette and | had the opportunity to interview Gibson while in lock up. | read Gibson his Miranda Warning and informed him the room ‘was recorded. In summary Gibson admitted to shooting himself with a 40 caliber firearm which malfunctioned while he was cleaning t According to Gibson he was in his wheelchair when the accident happened. Gibson said he was using his gun while in the presence ofa friend whom he called, SQN" Gibson stated the shooting occurred near the Extended Stay America Hotel at 3180 Finley Rd, Downers Grove, ilinols 60515. Gibson stated he's stayed at the hotel for 8 couple of years, he knows the girls who work there, and he “doesnt cause any trouble” | showed Gibson the post he made on Facebook and he admitted to the post. | informed Gibson that we had a search warrant for his Apple iPhone and he gave me the passcode for the phone. Search warrant 205W1951 was drafted and signed by Judge Schwartz forthe search of Gibson's Apple Phone 7, During the execution of 205W1951 at 2316 hours | conducted an advanced logical cellular acquistion of Gibson's Apple iPhone 7 ‘NST using Cellabite Photographs were taken at 0939 and 0940 hours on 12/28/2020 which depict three dark colored pistols. The images contain GPS coordinates ‘which place their location at 3190 Finley Rd, Downers Grove IL 60515 (approximately 200 feet south ofthe Extended Stay America Hote) Relevant information was bookmarked and a report was generated in UFED Reader format, The report was saved to a thumb drive and placed in evidence. Detective Lain traveled to the Extended Stay America Hotel. There he spoke with Front Desk Clerk MIMD anc Manager iy MERE 801 90710 10 HOW Gibson. AccoNdng 1 AN 27 TAMARA. Gibson dives a gray Mazda and lives in room 138, Search warrant 20SW1952 was drafted and signed by Judge Schwartz forthe search of room #139 at 3150 Finley Rd, Downers Grove. The search wartant was executed by Detective Lafin and myself on 12/29/20 at 0050 hours. Located in the room was a plastic sandiich type baggie Containing loose 40 caliber ammunition on the bed ofthe hotel room. Many forms of mail addressed to Gibson at the address of 3150 Finley Rd. was located along with his wallet on the bed with his ID. Located in the closet was a blue suitcase that was zipped up. Located in the suitcase was a biack locked SentrySafe. The safe was heavy and when shook the sound of metal was observed. Detective Jarette made contact with Gibson by phone who was with officers at Elmhurst Hospital regarding the key to the safe. Gibson informed Detective Jarrete that he hhagrt seen the key in along time and thought he left it under his wheelchair. The ammunition, mal, wallet. and safe was seized from the residence. Detective Jarette took pictures of the room and recovered items Search warrant 205W1953 was drafted and signed by Judge Schwartz for the search of the black metal Sentry Safe, At 0245 hours | used a screw driver to turn the lock of the safe and open it. Located inside the safe was the following: Taurus 2c 9M $1 ‘Smith&Wesson SD40 40 Caliber SNC Smith&Wesson MAP Shield 40 Caiber SN [Link] and 96M ammunition One (1) spent 40 Caliber shel casing Tite for Mazda 5 in name of Gibson Mail addressed to Gibson $14,450 USC in rubber band ‘The serial numbers on the pistols were ran though LEADS to find they were clear. The pistols recovered from the safe matched the pistols in the images on Gibson's cell phone. The above items were placed into evidence. A thumb drive containing the Gibson interview, cell hone report, digital images of safe, and images of Facebook Post was placed into evidence, Gibson was chaiged three (3) counts of UUW - Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Battery, and Disorderly Conduct - False Police Report. He processed at the station and transported to DuPage County Jal. This concludes my report. Erona (raven Davo reas i Ta (On 12/28/20 at 1830 hrs | responded to the station to conduct evidence technician (ET) duties Upon my arrival, Iwas briefed on the situation by Det Torza and £T Corrigan. ET Corrigan gave me the bloody clothes that were etrieved from the victim atthe hospital. | took the clothes to the east ET bay for processing, Ate putting on a fresh pair of N-Dex examination gloves | photographed the clothing with my Canon Digital Camera before placing them in the Forensic Drying Cabinet. There were one set of pants, a shirt and a jacket. As | was laying out the pants | located two 40 cal, rounds of ‘ammunition in the front right pocket Before | opened the Forensic Drying Cabinet, | put a fresh pair of N-Dex examination gloves on. | photographed the blue safety seal showing drying cabinet B (OCB) was sealed properly and not tampeted with. | cutoff the seal and later placed it into evidence | placed all items inside, sealed the cabinet. and began the drying procedure per the instructions located on the front of the drying unit, sealed ‘DCB with a red safety seal to prevent any contamination of the process, ‘Once the Detective Division obtained a search warrant forthe victim's vehicle, | processed it. | took overall and estabiishing photographs of the Gray Mazda 5 IL REGAQJUNBIBDoth inside and out. Once the detectives were completed with their search ofthe vehicle, they requested me to processa bive tonel and a wheelchair The blue towel was approx. 3x6 feet and had red stains on two opposite sides of the towel along with two holes. One hole in each area where the red stains were located. Before | opened Forensic Drying Cabinet A (DCA\, | puta fresh pair of N-Oex examination gloves on, | photographed the blue safety seal showing drying cabinet A (DCA) was sealed propery and not tampered with. | cut off the seal and later placed it into evidence. | placed the towel inside, sealed the cabinet, and began the drying procedure per the instructions located on the front of the drying nit. Sealed DCA with a red safety seal to prevent any contamination of the process. ‘As | photographed the wheelchair! observed a small hole in the cushion and a larger hoe in the frame on the lft sie (fone was sitting in the chai. The entrance and exit holes are consistent with a projectile being fred at a downward and left angle. The holes were photographed with and without scale, The wheelchair was then released to OMT Krupnik to be returned to the owner. Once the vehicle and contents the detectives wanted to be processed were complete, | secured the contents in the bay and completed the custody log, The 2 rounds of 40 cal. ammunition was pictured and placed into evidence. The detective division called for West and Sons to come to take custody of the vehicle and | released it at 0005 hrs, completed the custody log, and returned it to Sgt MeCollum, | finished this report and returned to patrol Incident Supplement Report [== aa aneren Ta tasermstst ay roe 1 at acer Deora Liste crne lave los eroce Clarice iremardtotreatntons (On 12/30/20 at 2345 hrs | responded to the station to Finish processing the clothes from the drying cabinets Upon my arrival took digital photos of the drying cabinets with red safety seals in place with my Canon Digital Camera. | removed the seals and later placed them into evidence. | removed the items from Drying Cabinet A (OCA) and Drying Cabinet & (OCB) and packaged them and submitted ther into evidence. | cleaned the drying cabinets DCA and DCB according tothe cleaning instructions displayed on the drying unit. | replaced the filters and placed bive safety seals on the cabinets, securing them. inished this report and returned to patrol
