PREP FAIR -01 SUMMERS 2020

Case:

Your company has recently launched a premium Skin Care Product. The product has
been very successful with close to 100,000 units sold. But there have been 20 isolated
cases of complaints received on using the product and a few customers have posted
an adverse review on Facebook to vent out his anger. Please discuss and suggest the
course of action to be taken.

Guidelines for Evaluation:

1. There is a preparation time of about 2 minutes, the panel starts the discussion
and observes the discussion without moderating it, and the group is at
complete liberty to understand, analyse, and interpret the case as it deems
appropriate in order to make a recommendation.
The time for discussion is 15 minutes and 3 minutes for conclusion.

2. Following steps are to be expected from the participants:

Step 1: Situational analysis

• analysing the situation by asking the questions about what we do not
know about the situation, and what assumptions we need to make in
order to solve the problem.
• Who are the parties/ stakeholders indirectly involved in this problem?
Step 2: Problem definition
• Participants must find out all the inherent problems but also determine
the order of priority in which they must dealt with.
Step 3: Statement of objectives
• What do we hope to achieve out of a range of solutions we are going to
discuss? Where will we absolutely not compromise, and where we
might? This must also be determined in the order of priority.
• Also, what steps must be taken so that the situation is not repeated in
future.
Step 4: Evaluation of alternatives
• Various alternate solutions and clear plans of approach must be
discussed with logical assumptions that should be clearly conveyed.
Step 5: Recommendation
• Upon discussing alternatives, the group may/ may not make a
unanimous recommendation, or the opinion may be divided. The group
is under no obligation to come to a consensus. The panel should evaluate
the participants on how logical the participants are in their execution of
Steps 1, 2, and 3.
