THE EXPLOITATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN MYANMAR

Our country, Myanmar, is endowed with barge of natural resources that exist instinctively
without any human effort. These resources include precious gems, forest goods, natural gases and so
many more. Despite this bounty, Myanmar still remains as one of the poorest countries in the world due
to the mismanagement of these riches. This needs to be solved in order to save our country from
poverty.

To begin with, the gifts we receive from the nature are misused or mishandled by some
opportunists who take advantage of local residents, the lawful owners of those resources and deceive
the law. Most obviously, although we have enough energy resources, natural gases for example, to
supply the whole country for free, only half of the country has access to electricity at some prices, which
makes it clear that some of them are used for the welfare of a group of the opportunists. It is quite
absurd that people who live near a place where there are plenty of precious stones and should possess
it are penniless, but it is a perpetuating truth in our country. It is because of their lack of knowledge
about the law concerning their riches as well as the shrewdness of the educated but cunning persons
who make the local people work in dangerous places and pay them a little but satisfying wage. For
instance, Kyene Thaung, which is famous for its priceless stones, does not profit its environment much
though it should because some big companies are in control of it and look for their queer wealth
neglecting the local inhabitants. Furthermore, such valuable products of forests as timber and teak are
smuggled by criminals without any hindrance at all because of corruption in our nation. Hence, it is
heartrending that we are deprived of our own wealth, which confines our country in deficiency.

It is crucial that the government take actions concerning those problems so as to make
Myanmar great again and get rid of poverty. The first step for them is to manage all the riches in the
country in a reasonable way, that is to protect them from being stolen and to utilize them. Meanwhile,
corruption needs to be eradicated too. It is also critical that they should use the profits of the natural
resources for the good the people in education, public health and transportation, for examples, by
building new roads and funding schools. In this way, we will make the most out of our natural gifts
leaving no stone unturned.

To sum up, we are still penniless albeit tons of natural resources belong to us owing to the ill
using of them by the astute but cunning. It is through the contributions and taking actions of the
government on them that our treasures will be optimized and Myanmar will stand out again as a golden
country among others.
