MOMENT DISTRIBUTION METHOD

The Moment Distribution Method (MDM) is a program that helps student to solve structural
engineering problem in the most convenient way. It is student-friendly for it is easy to use and
students can easily follow the steps that will be discussed in this report. On this step-by-step
problem solving, it will be focusing on problems with regards to beams.
First, you can choose the type of beam you will be solving and the number of span it has.
Different type of beam can be found on each sheet of the file. The program contains: Fixed
Beams on each side, Continuous Beams. Cantilever Beams.

A. FIXED BEAMS

B. CONTINOUS BEAM
C. Continuous Beam
After choosing which beam and assigning the number of span, you can now proceed with basic
data of the beam like length of the beam/s , the value of E, the value I and all the loads that each
span contains.
Picture bellows are sample of data to be filled up by the users.
For those problems with settlement, there’s a separate sheet for them. The pictures below are
sample that involves beams with settlement on their supports.

After filling up all the data needed to solve the given problem, the program will automatically
solve the given and the picture below is a sample of how data is processing in this program.
The solution involves the DF, FEM, BAL, COM and the final answer at the latter end.

And at last, answers will be presented at the right side of the program. The final answer includes
moments on each supports and their corresponding reaction.
