CSWIP-3.1 WELDING INSPECOR COURSE
INTRODUCTION

Zenith Inspection Services & Quality training centre (ZIS) has entered into an agreement
with UK firm to conduct technical training programs in India as per the CSWIP and
BGAS/CSWIP schemes in the field of welding, inspection, NDT, painting to meet the
requirement of the industry.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 To understand factors which influence the quality of fusion welds in steels


 To recognise characteristics of commonly used welding processes in relation to
quality control
 To interpret drawing instructions and symbols to ensure that specifications are met
 To set up and report on inspection of welds, macro sections and other mechanical
tests
 To assess and report on welds to acceptance levels
 To confirm that incoming material meets stipulated requirements and recognise the
effects on weld quality of departure from specification
 To be in a position to pass the Welding Inspector - Level 2 examinations

PARTICIPANTS

Suitable for professionals in welding industry willing to upgrade skill sets to International
Industry Standards and get the globally accepted certification. Persons who have minimum
of 3 years’ experience in the field of welding inspection or 5 years as welding Supervisor are
eligible to attend CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector course and exam as per the details are given
in document CSWIP WI‐6‐92 edition.

COURSE CONTENTS

The duties and responsibilities of a welding inspector; fusion welding processes; typical weld
defects; types of steel; carbon-manganese, low alloy and stainless steels; hardening of
steels; weldability; heat treatment; parent metal defects; visual inspection; testing parent
metals and welds; destructive tests; NDT techniques; welder and procedure approval; codes
and standards; outline of safe working practices; practice in examination questions;
continuous and end-of-course assessment.

CSWIP-3.1 WELDING INSPECOR COURSE
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 Welding Inspector for a minimum of 3 years with experience related to the duties
and responsibilities listed in Clause 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92, under
qualified supervision, independently verified OR
 Certified Visual Welding Inspector (Level 1) for a minimum of 2 years with job
responsibilities in the areas listed in 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92 OR
 Welding Instructor or Welding Foreman/Supervisor for a minimum of 5 year

PREPARATORY COURSE TRAINING

Zenith Inspection Services & Quality training centre (ZIS) is organizing and
conducting Welding Inspector examination preparatory courses at Goa ,Mumbai,
Ahmedabad-India and other training centres. Training consists of theory, practical sessions,
effective power point and video presentations, quiz and discussions on the topics. Mock up
examinations are also conducted to assess the knowledge gained and to improve the
confidence level. These mock up tests will quickly bring the participant to know his strengths
and weaknesses in specific topics so that more emphasis can be put on key topics to meet
the target.

EXAMINATION PATTERN

 Theory Part A2: General Welding Theory, Product Technology and NDT 30 multiple
choice questions ‐‐ 45 minutes. Theory Part B2: Specific Welding Technology. 60
multiple choice questions. Time allowed 1hr 30 minutes.
 Practical Part A2: Inspection of a plate butt weld to a code provided by the Test
Centre. Time allowed 1hr 15 minutes
 Practical Part B2: Inspection of a pipe butt weld to a code provided by the Test
Centre. Time allowed 1hr 45 minutes
 Practical Part C2: Inspection of a set of 2 Nos. macro test samples to a code provided
by the Test Centre. 45 minutes
