Nassar et al.

(2008) argued that how the figure of Omar al-Mukhtar turned into a popular transnational
symbol in Africa, Asia and the Arab world. Omar al-Mukhtar was originally a part of history of Cyrenacia,
then he turned out to be important figure for Arab. He contributed to the formation of different forms
of nationalism of Arab during their battle against colonization. He is now an essential figure of
“imagined community” of Arab. The study investigates that how his memory has been molded in new
and different manners in contemporary politics and culture of Middle East and North Africa. Al-
Mukhtar's noteworthy character has become historical figure of modern Libya. It show how the legacy
of martyr Omar Mukhtar has been and is still used for political mobilization.
