interrupt us if you have any questions during the presentation, we would be happy to answer
all of them. Okay let’s start with the first point.

Story of Veja

Limited resources and polluted environment is one of the biggest issues of todays’ world.
Individuals and companies try their best to fight this problem. Among them is Veja-
manufacturing company of sneakers which makes its products from recycled materials. The
company history began so: The two cofounders Francis Morillion and Sebastian Cope
worked at an audit company, one day they accidently saw the inside situation of one clothe
brand manufacturer where employees had to work in terrible conditions – 32 men in one
room. Globalization has went wrong- that was their conclusion. Later the cofounders
decided to create an innovative product which would be based on principles of sustainability.
Their choice was sneakers because they thought that sneakers were the main symbol of
todays generation. At the end they came to the slogan: One foot in design, another in CSR.
And it was also clear to them that there were many problems with the way that
sneakers were being made, particularly by huge sportswear corporations. In the ’90s,
brands like Nike and Adidas were often in the news because of the labor violations
that were taking place in their factories. And after just a few short years studying
supply chains, they realized that sneakers were made of materials that were highly
polluting to the environment.

Veja first exploded onto the French market in 2004, where it was quickly
embraced by luxury department stores. It was in Brazil where they found
a collective that produced organic cotton, which is still rare. The name
itself Veja in Portugese mean to look, to see. They chose this name
because when consumers look at their sneakers, they might see a new
reality . So If sustainability is important in deciding what you wear on
your feet, French brand Veja may just have the most ethical kicks around.
Now Mariam will continue talking about its CSR activities.
