Reflection Paper

From the first day of our class, I learned about the different branches of home economics,
namely Cooking, Child rearing, Community awareness and education, Design and home
management, Textiles and sewing, Economics and budgeting, Hygiene and health. I learned also
about the definition of Home economics which is the study of home making deals with subjects
connected with daily activities of the home makers such as food, clothing, shelter, finance,
health, child care, home beautification, community service.
Sometimes, the students underrated the TLE or Home Economics subject, maybe because
of the influence of their classmates or friends. From its history, home economics was labeled
before only for woman because it is all about home management. But little by little, the subject
was divided into many. Hence, gentlemen can be taught about home management. The home
economics teach the students about the life of a family, having a responsibility and to be skilled
internationally in terms of technical fields.
The home economics today become more specific, industrial arts, crafts etc., added. For
the students who are now in senior high school, they must have the National Certificate from the
TESDA to certify their eligibility to a qualification. For example, if the grade 9 students had the
cookery subject major of TLE, then he/she may continue the major in their SHS. I learned also
about the home economics as seen in the future. Since we are now in the 4 th industrial revolution,
the updates on technology inside the home as utility will be upgraded and people must also adapt
that thing. Overall, the most important thing about the first day that I have learned on this
subject is the significance of home economics.
