Do LEGOs wear out?

LEGO is a brand owned by a Danish family. It was a family business of carpenter, which turned and
transformed into the biggest toy company. LEGOs are made of high-quality materials and famous for
their extreme tolerance. They are sold enormously, like in every hour, the market sells 20-25 sets.
This depicts the demand for toys and how much they are loved.

Moreover, there is no specific defined limit to how long these LEGO bricks would last. They never
decompose or scattered, it is because of the fine material used in manufacturing. The specific plastic
is carefully used, which it ABS ( acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ), they can take unknown time limit in
nature for decomposition. However, for “being worn out”, there is a limit due to overuse of the
product. A person named Alex Cantin has experimented. He used 3x3 Lego bricks. He saw that after
being put together and taken apart for like 38,114 times, the bricks got damaged. Besides, they can
be used for this long and can be transferred from generation to generation. The Lego bricks are so
versatile, that it can build anything.

Besides, the team of LEGO expects that according to its durability and sustenance, these toys could
last from 100 to 1,300 years in a marine environment as well. As the bricks can last for decades, you
might have some bricks which would be much older than your grandparents as well. Yet, they would
be perfectly functioning and better than the new bricks of the other clone brick making companies.
LEGO are completely reusable toys, however, the life of their coloration is a bit shortened due to
some considerable sunlight. The UV light starts a process of returning the color to the natural tan
color of the plastics, which it previously had. Few of the bricks have some concentration of Bromine
mixed in it, which turned into brown when are decomposed. Black color bricks have much resistance
for discoloration as they have some amount of Carbon mixed.

LEGO bricks are not at all biodegradable within a human lifetime. This makes the product more
valuable and more demanding. There is no chance for bricks does not melt unless and until it is
exposed to the extreme level of heat. Besides, if they are not exposed to light and a certain level of
hot water, they last years and years. It can not be possible for LEGO toys to decompose when placed
in a plastic bag. However, if you put it in boiling or hot water, it may have more chances of weathering
away and changing its actual shape. These bricks are for educational purposes, which is limitless. One
should use it to turn their imagination into a real model. This plastic does not let the toy wear off, as it
is made up of other plastics, metals, some of silicons and other elements. This helps the LEGO sets to
maintain their life span for more years.

As compared to the other plastic toy companies, LEGO does not use the highly reactive chemicals
which can harm the children. The toys does not wear out if held with a proper care. However, some
researches shows that the toys from 70s and 80s are a big fail, as at that time, there was no chemical
testing. This might have hazardous effects on person using it. It is said that it you have old sets which
are broken or about to break, you should decompose it in the first place or donate it to the
organizations which require them the most.

To prevent LEGO from deterioration, they should be put in an ice bag and cold environment. It does
not mean to place them in a refrigerator but despite, in a room with a low heat level and more dry
place. One must keep them away from the sunlight, as UV rays can make the brick weather away
seriously. The ice bad will store the bricks for years as they are away from all the dust particles and
smoke as well. Also, remove the batteries of the electronic parts of the toy. If you keep them in the
toys, the battery may corrode, leaving a sticky mess that would be dangerous. So, the ideal place is to
store them in a dark room, it can be a cupboard, box, or vice versa.

As the children are more inclined to play outdoors, in the sunlight. LEGO has decided to use ‘plant-
based polyethylene’ from sugar cane which will make the plastic hard-wearing. This will help children
to play in their preferable environment. This new material will came in the market near in 2030 and
more experiments with the material are taken out, to ensure that all the short comings are dealt
carefully without compromising the quality of the products. Furthermore, the company has claim to
decrease all the risk rates in up coming years. This might increase the durability rate of the product as
well and the other risks as well.

As they have less deterioration rate, this makes the LEGO most selling brand in the world. However,
the parents as for less harmful toys for their children, as they are very delicate and intricate little
beings. As mentioned above, these LEGO sets are used from generations to generations, so they have
more solid life expectancy than any other toy brand products. This make LEGO more expensive yet
more usable in many years. The product does not decompose on its own, however it has been said
that it used to loose its interlocking ability, which is now fixed as the years are passing. Besides all this,
the company has made sure to share the original and mistake free products to their customer.

However, the main issue which intruded the way was the deterioration of the toys bought. It has been
stated that the products are created with much care so they must be held with care as well. This will
enhance their life long use.
