Breathing exercise

- Breathing control
- Thoracic expansion exercise (TEE)
 Collateral ventilation (pores of Kohn)
- Incentive spirometers: Triflo, Voldyne

Positioning
- Prop-up: better chest expansion
- Side-lying: for uneven chest expansion, lie on non-dependent lung

Mobilization
- Exercise increases demand of ventilation: leading to increase in lung volume
- Limb exercise
 Breath-in: arms up, breath out: arms down
- Walking

Secretion removal
- PD
- p/v
 vibration: initiate and peak of inspiration and continue throughout expiration
- ACBT
 Breathing control, TEE +/- p/v , breathing control, huffing and cough, breathing
control
- Oscillatory positive expiratory pressure (flutter/acapella)
 Facilitate secretion mobilization
 Positive pressure: prevent early airway closure
 2-3 times per day, 10-15 mins
 Deep breath in, hold 2-3 sec, breath out
