THE TEACHING OF FLUID MECHANICS

In recent years, it was recognized that chemical processes were made up of unit
operations that could be studied and treated separately and independently of the
process itself. Since then, fluid mechanics has been part of the curriculum of most
engineering companies because it provides us with the fundamentals and tools
necessary to design and evaluate equipment and said chemical processes in
various fields. Such fundamentals refer to the nature of fluids and the properties
that describe them; the mathematical expressions that govern their behavior and
the various methodologies that can be used in solving problems.
Under this ideology, in the development of chemical engineering specifically, the
teaching of the stirring and mixing operation is promoted almost daily, which is
involved in practically all industrial processes. This is why it is very important to be
clear on the subject in order to achieve a good achievement of the required mixing
levels, the physical-chemical characteristics of the components and their
compatibility, as well as the volumes to be mixed. In addition to the intelligent
choice of the agitator to originate the chemical homogenization. In the same way,
the study of the flow of two phases and its correlation with the speed of each one,
gravity, and the flow regime is imparted;
Also, mention can be made of the look at packed bed and fluidized bed treatment.
Both, generally for the purpose of improving contact between twophasesin a
chemical or similar process. But this second, that is, the fluidized bed, with a
greater increase in what concerns the contact of the solid particles with the
fluidization medium, compared to thepacked beds. And not least, the teaching
transmitted regarding the hydraulic separation of mixtures and their respective
classification based on the dimensioning and concentration of the particles. Orunit
operations that are connected to create the overall process. Well, a process may
require many operations of the unit to obtain the desired product from the starting
materials, or raw materials.
In short, the unit operations mentioned above and that correspond to the
knowledge received up to this point, form the fundamental principles of all types of
industries and are the basis for the designs of chemical plants, factories, and
equipment used. Not to mention, the teaching received in terms of software or
technological programs that allow obtaining faster and optimal solutions to the
different problems presented. All this of course is nothing more than an opinion
based on the lived experience of the person who is studying this career and writes
this essay.
