¿De qué se trata el artículo?

The article proposes the articulation of 4 steps to develop the immersion Virtual Reality based
collaborative 4D simulation at the field of the supporting constructability analysis meetings. These
4 steps are to define the VR environment, to develop the 4D model, to prepare and transfer the
model in the VR system and to conduct constructability analysis meeting. The interesting thing
about this article is that It also articulates concepts from multiple scientific areas. It should be
noted that it focuses on the 4D model since it makes use of various aspects such as the
communication of ideas, facilitating collaborative work and education, logistics, site development
and excavation, and analysis of constructability and activity-scheduling alternatives.

¿Cómo influye el software Autodesk Navisworks®️en el desarrollo de esta investigación?

Mainly, the software Autodesk Navisworks allows working together and remotely, but
simultaneously. In the development of this article, the software Navisworks was used to create a
federated model and to prepare the first alternative of the 4D model, using the timeliner module
of the software. However, a high level is required for the interactivity with the 4D simulation, for
the planning details and for the dynamic capability of the simulation.

¿Para qué sirve la simulación 4D en los proyectos de construcción?

It should be noted that 3D information continues to be used today in the construction sector.
However, the use of 4D simulation is therefore justified by the need to integrate a fourth
dimension, called the dimension temporal, found in the scheduling of work. It is thus possible to
simulate the construction process as a function of time. One of the most interesting aspects of 4D
use in construction projects is the relevance of the contents of 4D models, the 4D collaborative
simulation, the visualization techniques used, and interaction with 4D models. Some researchers
propose built-in photo-embedding system in a 4D in the pursuit of efficiency.

¿Para qué sirve la realidad virtual en los proyectos de construcción?

The purpose of virtual reality in construction projects depends on the platform used. For exemple,
the university of Stanford developed the iRoom, a system specialized for construction industry
practitioners. It consists of a server and multiple computers connected to video projectors and
other large screens. Multiple applications and viewers are included in the system, making it
possible to simultaneously view various perspectives of a 4D mode on the screens. Another
platform used was Interactive Virtual Interface (IVI), this is a 3D model is predefined and a virtual
window makes it possible to manipulate 3D elements. The IVI also allows users to perform a
verification of spatial conflicts.

¿Cuáles son los recientes avances en simulación 4D para construcción?

The latest developments in this area are a built-in photo-embedding system in 4D developed by
Park this model allows project teams to better track progress and make the decision process more
efficient. Another one was a method to automate the indoor tracking of progress by Kropp. This
method was made for recognizing the state of interior construction with images linked to a 4D BIM
model. Other methods proposed are the created by Omar et al whom propose an approach to
monitoring and control of site activities, based on automated photogrammetry. Finally, the most
interesting for me was the model based on the simulation of time-stepped discrete events created
by Hu, this one reduces the overall duration of a project using as-built data.
