3, Please explain the difference between community water and commodity water. How would you
determine available volume of commodity water? How would you ensure a sustainable and
equitable water resource use?

4, What kind of economic instruments can you use to manage long term water scarcity? Please
compare these instruments with each other.

5, How do we know that water has an economic value? And how can we measure it?

6, Is it a good idea to help producers by subsidizing water use? What are the benefits and drawbacks
of such a subsidy from an individual and a public perspective (with examples)? What are the
alternatives of subsidies?

7, What are the potential cost and value components of a nature embedded water use (water use
that has multiple impacts on the environment)?

8, Introduce the concept of ecosystem services and the strengths and challenges of applying it from
an economic perspective on water related conflicts.

9, Could you describe a landscape degradation process with the use of the ecosystem service
framework?

10, What were the driving forces of the Cape Town water crisis and which measures were applied to
cope with it? Describe some of the pros and cons of these measures, using what you learned during
the semester.
