OPENING MURDER
EXT: Forest – Night time
TRANS IN:
Blaring headlights peak through the trees. The camera
moves slowly towards the vehicle as it comes to a stop.
The door swings open, and a man gets out. We can’t make
out any defining features, as he is simply a silhouette.
Backlit by the headlights behind him, we follow him
around the car. He opens the boot, to reveal someone
struggling, tied up. They are hauled out of the boot and
thrown onto the forest floor. They try to scream, but it
is muffled by their mouth cover, they’re bound by their
hands and feet. The driver sits them upright on their
knees. They are paralysed by fear. The driver pulls a
knife from his back pocket, and brandishes it before the
hostage. They try one last struggle, but it is no use.
Reluctantly, the driver stabs them in the chest. He
continues stabbing wildly. The Camera begins to spin
slowly around him as he mindlessly stabs at the hostage.
Desperation fuelling his every move, until he stops and
stares down at his handywork. We can see him now, barely,
covered in blood and distraught by his actions. The knife
falls from his hand, onto the forest floor. He begins to
run back to the driver’s seat. We cut to the title card.
TRANS OUT:

KNIFE P.O.V MONTAGE

THE REVEAL

INT: Interrogation Room – N/A

After the montage, showing the Knifes journey, we are
flung into the Interrogation room. The camera distances
itself from the knife, leaving the evidence bag to reveal
Detective ALAN KINGSTON. Across from him, is the
murderer, EDDIE CARTER.
ALAN
Does this look familiar to you, Eddie?
Eddie looks at the knife, visibly shaken.

2
EDDIE
(nervously)
Erm… no, Sir.
ALAN
Now isn’t the time for games, it’s the
time to come clean. You’ve nowhere left
to run.
EDDIE
I ain’t seen it before, I swear it!
Alan gets closer to Eddie.
ALAN
If you’ve never seen it, as you claim,
then explain one more thing to me Mr.
Carter. How has my team managed to find
your fingerprints all over the weapon?
EDDIE
Someone gotta be setting me up or
something, I ain’t lying to ya.
We know he is lying.
ALAN
Accept defeat. Your race is run. It’s
over.
Eddie is silent.
ALAN [CONT.]
The East bank river, running distance
from the scene of the crime. Are you
really so naïve that you thought we
wouldn’t look? We have the weapon, we
have the fingerprints, and as if that
wasn’t enough; we also have CCTV footage
of you purchasing the knife from a local
hardware store a week or so before the
murder. Or is that a setup too?

3
EDDIE
(defeated)
ALAN
It’s no use Eddie, we have you.
EDDIE
I said, no comment.
ALAN
Unfortunately for you, with this new
evidence, we don’t need a comment.
Eddie puts his head down on the table to hide his face,
he knows he has nowhere left to run. He has finally
caved.
ALAN
My name is Detective Chief Inspector
Alan Kingston, the time is 4:37pm on the
19th of September 2019, and I find Eddie
Carter guilty of the murder of Evan
Richards on Tuesday the 3rd of September
2019.
As Alan proudly closes his successful interrogation, we
pan down towards the knife once again as it lies on the
table between Eddie and the detective. Finally, after a
few moments of silence, we cut to black.
