Quorum

 The number or proportion of members which must be present at a particular meeting


 In the absence of a quorum, no business can be transacted, but there are businesses that can be transacted
in the absence of quorum
o To take measures to obtain a quorum
o To fix the time to which to adjourn
o To adjourn
o To take a recess

What constitutes a Quorum?


 It is the bare majority who are duly registered as members
 In certain organizations where membership is irregular, it is customary to
require a proportional number of members (i.e. one-third, one-fourth or
one-fifth of the current membership)

Walkouts & illegal Adjournment


 If bigger numbers withdraws so as to leave no quorum, the minority in general is considered powerless.

Presumption of Quorum
 The minutes shows a quorum existed but at a certain time w/o recess or adjournment the same record
fails therefore the quorum must still continue thereafter.

Questioning a Quorum
 At anytime, members can request the chair to determine whether a quorum exist
 “Mr. Chairman, is there a quorum present?”
