TA27-22E HYDRAULIC CYLINDER (MOUNTING) ‘The hydraulic cylinder is secured to the mating parts in two positions, namely, on the cylinder body and at the piston rod end. Where the cylinder moves on the same plane, it is normally secured in place at each end with pin as illustrated below. ‘The sketch below shows the pin section of a KOMATSU standard hydraulic cylinder secured by using pins. A pin hole has the hardened bushing shrink-fitted, and the pin surface is hardened and hard chrome-plated. In order to prevent the excessive wear and rusting of pin and bushing due to the dirt, mud, ete. between them, the dust seals are fitted in at the ends of bushing to prevent che infiltration of water, mud, dirt, etc. KOMATSU LTD Where the hydraulic cylinder has been secured by using a pin as shown below, the rod can move in the direction indicated by a blue arrow but not in the direction indicated by red arrow. Then, in a case where the hydraulic cylinder does not always move in the plane or where a pin may tile from time to time, the piston rod will be bent or the pin hole and its surrounding area will be damaged, if the cylinder rod is secured by a pin. head will be worn partially. (Refer to the TRAINING AID NO. CYLINDER.) \ O Mees of parcial wear For this reason, ball joints or spherical bushings are used in place of pins for the hydraulic cylinders making such a movement as described above. For example, the drawbar on a motor grader makes the lengthwise and sidewise movements and then, its activating hydraulic cylinder is secured at its piston rod with a ball joint. Rod head ~ This ball joint will not move, if the ball is forcibly pushed by the cap. Then, a shim is used to obtain a proper ball movement. To adjust the cap fitting against the ball, put the cap on the ball without a shim, and tempora- rily tighten che cap with a bolt so as to have the uniform clearance between the cap and ball. Then, measure the clearance with a feeler gauge. Select a shim, 0.2 mm thicker than the measured clearance and retighten the cap after putting the shim into between the cap and ball. Then, a proper push on the ball will be insured. At this time, care must be taken to coat the ball with grease and not to allow the dust seal to come out of groove. In securing the piston rod to the bulldozer blade, a spherical bushing is used to permit the pin to tilt together with the blade. ‘The spherical bushing is furnished in a set of ball and the outer bushing, and thus it must be replaced in a set. ‘To remove the spherical bushing, take a snap ring out of place and push the outer bushing out of place by a press. To install the spherical bushing, coat the outer circum. ference of bushing with grease and push it into place by the press. At this time, a silt on the outer bushing may face in any direction. When pushing the bushing into or out of place, use a press with a pipe put on the side face of outer bushing. Do not push or give blows to the center ball. Further, the hydraulic cylinder can be secured with a trunnion in place of pin as illustrated below. In this case, the overall length of hydraulic cylinder can be short comparatively. Trunnion Where the length of a hydraulic cylinder extended or contracted all the way is to be adjusted, its rod end and the rod head can be threaded so as to adjust the length. When the adjustment is completed, the rod head yoke must be tightened by a bolt to prevent the turning of rod. In one of those hydraulic cylinders which have a lifting function by its extension like that used on a forklift truck, the cylinder body has a spherical bottom put on a dish-like support. Such a hydraulic cylinder used as a life cylinder on a forklift truck can be allowed to tilt due to the mast looseness to some degree. Printed in Japan (08°86(06)03003, <
