Short Answer Questions

Short answer questions are questions which you have to answer using words
taken from the text. You are told how many words to take in each case. These
questions may appear in any part of the reading test. They test your ability to skim
the passage quickly for overall meaning and then scan for specific information.
Here’s how to answer this type of question:

● Make sure you understand the question and identify its keywords.
● Find the part of the passage the question refers to.
● Look in the passage for possible synonyms of the key words.
● Use words or numbers from the passage to answer the question.
● Don't use more words than stated in the question and only use words
from the text. You don't need to write full sentences.

The answers appear in the text in the same order as the questions. Here's an
example question:

Answer the questions below.


Choose NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER from the
passage for each answer.

1. When did the area become protected?


2. What was being cut down without permission?
3. Which area is next to the sea?
