The school was founded in 1876 by Edvard Palmgren , who was rector until 1907.
A later half-owner and principal was Carl Nordblad ; the other half owner was the
well-known mathematics teacher and textbook author John Hedström . Henning
L Håkanson (1892-1985) was the principal in 1925-1963.
The school was originally located in Brunkeberg's hotel [ 1 ] , where one was only
engaged in craft teaching but moved in 1877 to Regeringsgatan 28, where the
school was divided into two departments [ 2 ] , one for reading and handicraft and
one for manual work. Gradually, it developed into a complete curriculum of 12
classes in two departments, small school and elementary school. From 1883,
state support was granted and in 1888 the right to employ maturity testing and in
1908 was granted a law degree. In 1915 the school was taken over by a limited
liability company and in 1925 by the Freedom of Peace Fredrikastiftelsen . [ 3 ]
Between 1877 and 1938, the school had eight different addresses before settling
on Kommendörsgatan 13. [ 4 ]
The elementary school was introduced gradually from 1962 [ 5 ] The school was
private but was communicated in 1974. The business ceased on June 10, 1977
after the 100th reading year end [ 6 ] . The French state bought the building in
1988 for SEK 8,400,000 and has internally rebuilt the exterior Q-marked house
for the embassy building .
